Forums - PC Discussion - In 2019, I'm Buying a New PC. (Video capture and editing)

Congrats on the new PC, it is great for 1080p gaming.

EDIT: But you want a 120GB SSD for windows and programs.

Your machine is fine. Nothing too crazy, but it gets the job done. You should be able to play most, if not all, modern titles at 1080p resolution with 60 fps if you are ready to scale back details a bit here and there.

You should be fine for next 1-2 years. After that, you can still get a new GPU, just wait what will come until then. Apparently Intel is getting ready to launch GPUs for gamers and AMD should have something to go against Nvidia at some point. Even if both AMD and Intel can't quite catch up, it should at least help to bring prices down a notch. Right now is about the worst time ever to get a new GPU. edit: Okay, it was even worse while all that mining hype was going on, but you get the point. Nvidia has just about no competition in the high-end segment and prices just skyrocket into infinity. =D

As for editing video, I would strongly suggest to upgrade your RAM to at least 16 GB. Video editing can be a pain in the ass with little system memory.

Well, guess what?  I lied.  I'm not getting a new PC in 2019.  I'm getting it this month.  I just pulled the trigger on one through Newegg.  Similar to the one I posted the link to, it's the:

Lenovo Gaming Desktop Legion Y520T-25ICZ (90JB003HUS) Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8400 (2.80 GHz) 8 GB DDR4 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

After tax, I paid $685.  Yes, there are more powerful systems out there, but it's much newer and faster than what I have now while not breaking the bank.  Now, I'm looking at an ASUS monitor that's going to run me about $140.  Any other suggestions?

So was the PC a good buy?  And how does it compares to the one I originally looked at:

Your gpu is a bit weak, but the cpu is good. I got a geforce 1070 and it can barely play any games, it's one big reason why I have abandon pc and gone ps4 pro. I recommend you w8 untill nvidia releases there's 7nm gpu architecture and get it when available. Also you might need another 8GB ram stick and a ssd drive at some point.

Geforce 1070 is a mid to high end GPU. If you don't know how to work a PC.. oh you already switched to a console, good.

I had to laugh at that one too . A GTX 1070 Ti is likely best the mid range money/performance buys for the moment.

You mentioned editing and being on a budget. DaVinci Resolve is a good, free editing program, and I've also heard some good things about Lightworks and Shotcut.

After I get the basics set up (web browser, office software, desktop customization, etc.) I'll start looking into the options you mentioned.  If it seems easy enough, I'll be capturing and editing gameplay video as a secondary hobby.  I've thought about getting into MMD and 3D animation. If I do, I'm probably going to need video editing software for post editing.

Yeah the problem probably lies with other component's not even being mid range.
