Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The VGChartz Pokemon League (join now!)

Edit: I've updated this to try and apply this to Sword/Shield, now that they are out now and are more than likely going to sell a lot better on this website.

League Setup

1 Master (rank 1 from all competitors)

4 Elite Four (rank 2-5 of all competitors)

8 Gym leaders (rank 6-13 of all competitors)

Everyone else will have a rank number, but no title.

Ranking Up

You can only challenge the player above you or be challenged by the player below your ranking. You move up or down based on the win/loss. The system needs to be honor based. Please just update in the thread whenever you get a chance and, if someone says you lied, there will be a penalty of some kind depending on if a screenshot is provided. Please don't lie, let's make this fun.

Start Date

Whenever we have 13 people that want to do this, they will then fight in order to determine rankings and positions. Please comment if you want to join the VGchartz Pokemon League!

*As soon as we have 13 people, just to get this thing start properly, we will all face each other ones. 1 point per win. We will be ranked based on how many points we have (if there are ties we will have tiebreaking matches for those people). Once we have all 13 ranks established, then we can open up the league for official battles and people can move up and down freely based on results.

Reserved for Hall of Fame (former and current champions and their lineup upon becoming champion).

*You can post now.

I may join when the 2019 game comes out. A tournament with only gen 1 Pokémon doesn't seem very exciting.

It could even be more enjoyable as it isn't complicated. On the other hand, my hope is that Nintendo releases more either A) more versions that will allow you to transfer your character/lineup into remakes of the other games or B) directly connects this account with the main pokemon game coming out hopefully next year. This game is just too enjoyable to wait for the next one to do something cool like this.

This. It's not really fun when the metagame has pretty much regressed to 1996 (or 206 if we want to be more specific).

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Hmm, I guess I view it differently. The vast majority of pokemon made in the past 5-10 years (to me) are underwhelming, don't look like pokemon, and make the game more confusing. Having it back to the basics is like a refreshing reset to me. Anywho, if no one wants to we don't have to, I just thought it would be fun and figured based on the sales we'd have at least some people willing to do it. No worries if not.

Oh, I had no intention to rain on your parade. By all means, I'm sure there are people here enjoying this game a lot. I'm just still salty about Let's Go's existence, and what it means for GameFreak and the Pokemon franchise in general.

Gotcha. Have you played it yet? I've owned practically every generation (just not Bw 1 or 2) and I'm loving how they changed things with Let's Go. I hope they never go back to wild battle encounters and stick with this catching system, as it means your pokemon still gain experience from wild encounters (via capturing) but don't get weakened from them, making you have to heal a whole lot less. It's a huge quality of life improvement in my book and actually makes catching pokemon fun to me.

I don't. I consider that most, if not all, of the changes they've done to streamline and/or help newcomers to actually dillute the experience in excess, to the point that it becomes boring to see and play. Plus the lack of any other pokemon but Gen 1, I don't want to pay full price for a game with 1/7th of the content of the previous mainline title, spinoff or not.
