Forums - Gaming Discussion - Grind fetch quests are boring AF

I hate the kind of fetch quests where the drops are rare and the quest-giver doesn't even give any indication where you might find the thing you need. One of my few complaints about Xenoblade really

Skyrim seems to have the only questing systems I enjoyed after 250 hours of solid playing. BotW has many run of the mill quests some which are unfortunately necessary for the 120 shrine completion ...I have 111 done so far after 115 hours...keep your fingers crossed for me.

For me an open world game's first priority is to present me with an interesting world I can roam in and do everything I like. I put on my favorite music or stream and just get lost in the world while doing my shit. You know what doesn't help there? Overly convoluted quests with tons of dialogue that require me to pay attention, or even worse, want me to give a shit about characters.

I can't recall a single open world game where I gave even half a shit about the side quests, let alone the main quest. Let me have my mindless fetch quests that relax and make me appreciate the pretty open world and its mechanics.

Red Dead Redemption? So far the side quests have been great, definitely not fetch like.

So those guys who want quality pelts from animals you need to hunt first isn't include in the definition of a fetch quest ? Doubtful.

Which ones? I know you need quality pelts for rare outfits, but I haven't done a quest for a guy who wants me to hunt some pelts. They could well be in the game, I just haven't come across them yet.

If you start to think about it, it makes a whole lot of sense. If the AI was as fast as you or even faster you could lose sight of that NPC and never catch up. Thus have no idea where to go and/or miss crucial plot points since you're too far away to listen to what the NPC says. Also, games use the analog stick to control your movement speed. You can absolutely move as slow as them or even slower if you want.

The AI can slow down when you fall behind and they do, even stop and wait for you. They won't speed up to match your speed though. RDR2 even suggests to hold down X to match their speed. It's very annoying, just get a move on. (RDR2 has a shortcut though, attack them 3 times with a molotov cocktail and skip to next checkpoint)

The AI can definitely be fast, Those crappy police horses still easily outrun your $1350 elite Arabian race horse :p

Red dead redemption doesn't have fetch side quests, it's closer to The Witcher 3 than it is to BoTW. Probably beats Tw3 in some aspects of narrative and interesting side content as much of it is triggered by emergent or emergent like game play and much of it is hidden (The serial killer side quest, The small homestead 'narratives'. Not even close to fetch quest like and all that kind of stuff is reserved to the back end completion list and in game leaflets a player may never even pick up, much less notice.

It has plenty fetch quests, it's all I'm left with now. It has a whole bunch of challenges and tasks which all come down to fetch quests. There are also some Item fetch quests from companions, which you have to do during the right story chapter if you care about completion.

You can indeed ignore all that and just be left with it at the end. The problem of that is, that that's the last thing you'll remember of that game... A pile of leftover fetch quests.

It is kind of hidden, but in stations their hand posters for a museum/guy who wants quality pets of rare animals.  I honestly love doing them. But now people also get annoyed because you don't get a marker on the map where they exactly are.

I play Euro Truck Simulator 2 all the time. That game i pretty much nothing but "drive an hour in that direction, get stuff, drive three hours in another direction". And I absolutely love it.

It all depends on the gameplay. If the gameplay itself is good, fetch quests can be fun as hell. If the gameplay sucks balls, even the best quest design on earth won't save a game.

Any game where you forced to walk slow as dicks following a NPC absolutely snap me. Ass creed and Red dead 2 looking at you here!!!
