Damn, the west does a lot of heavy lifting because of weak Japanese opening. Is it a sellthrough number or shipped number in that tweet?

Sell through.

Deffintly seems that at least for now game is more popular in West that it is in Japan compared to previous Pokemon games, saying that, Japan insiders saying that is expected that will keep selling very well and that WOM is great (in other words in Japan people were reserved about this game but much more people is getting on board when actualy people played game).

People should have saved their money for the real pokemon next year, but for each their own.

Oh boy... WoM is actually great on this game, so no reason to save their money.

I'm going to assume this is sold-in (shipped+digital) for now. 6 days after release is a bit soon for them to know sell-through from global retailers. It took 13 days for GoW and Spiderman figures for first 3 days to be announced.

Either way it should do 10m+ lifetime no problem.

Sony just reveals it later than Nintendo.

Nintendo told investors 4 days after SMO release that it has sold through 2M copies. No reason for Pokemon Company not to know the sales for the first weekend 6 days after it's release.

This is sell through for sure, no chance they would just ship 3M including digital worldwide for a Pokemon.

Yes I think you're right this is sell-through. Looked at SMO Difference in timing seems to be that Nintendo release estimates while Sony wait longer for all data to be collected.

Wonder how well a mainline title will do.

It think it will do better than Let's Go, but I don't know how much better it will do.

Actual Gamefreak quotes:

"The game will give a good understanding of what an evolved Pokémon game looks like after it has continued to succeed the traditions of Game Freak."

"We want to make Pokémon fans say 'this is what I've been waiting for' by delivering a brand-new product packed with gameplay elements and plenty of new Pokémon to encounter."

If they deliver on what they're promising and have some nice surprises, this could be Nintendo's biggest ever launch potentially. They've got a few things going for them:

- Pokemon brand is huge, and after Pokemon Go and LGP/E, they've tapped into a lot of people who have given up on the franchise

- Last Pokemon mainline games (D/P till S/M) have consistently sold 15m+

- Like with Mario Odyssey and BOTW, there is a thirst from the fanbase for the next push in the franchise

- Switch user base will have grown significantly by next year

While I do agree that this dosent feel(since I havent played it) as good as the mainline games, you can almost taste the denial in this statement.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Awesome numbers, congrats game freak. Though if 2019 game doesnt do better than this I suspect the series will take a turn for the worse.

I don't see why next year's Pokémon game wouldn't do better than Let's Go. It's what hardcore fans really want. Besides, the install base will be higher than it is right now by the time it's out.

It absolutely should do significantly better, but it's no guarantee. Those of us who passed on Let's Go are clearly the minority, so even if everyone who bought Let's Go also buys Gen 8, the sales may or may not be that different, but the production values and thus profits sure will be. Let's Go is selling to the same installbase so the only difference it makes is a higher chance of a bigger opening. So far the highest selling Pokemon on a system has always been the first one to release, but they've also always been a new generation. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out for sure!

Oh, and this is sold-through if Im not mistaken.I think I have read that somewhere.Which makes the number even more impressive, given that sold in numbers must be closer to 5 millions or so.

Massive. As a player of original Pokemon, PoGo and with a wife and kid that also like it this will probably be the reason for us yo get a Switch.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Really good numbers, and I haven't even got my two copies yet. So how long until old predictions thread start to come back up?

BOLD Prediction: Pokemon Lets Go will Sell 1billion

So I take it the skeptics from before are probably realizing that their personal views don't reflect what's actually going to play out. Smash is out next week for even more sales carnage and next year we have Gen 8 and Animal Crossing to carrying on the trend of possible 10m sellers.
