Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U - 6 YEARS CELEBRATION!

Happy birthday, Wii U. I always loved it and always will. I never understood why it didn't catch on since I value a console for its games, and I consider the Wii U's library far superior to the competition. Even though I can easily admit that the name wasn't good and it wasn't very clever to sell it like a boosted Wii. But I love the Gamepad and I can't understand why people call it clumsy and too big. It's actually very comfortable and the second screen can indeed add a lot to the experience.

Great system which gave me one of my greatest gaming years ever in 2015. Happy Bday!

I thought the Switch was Wii U's celebration.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

My son still plays/uses it almost daily.
It's a good system.

Congrats I guess, I found WiiU in the end to be Nintendo’s weakest console, and a mediocre one overall. Even though it was one of the tiny few I actually got Day One.

I think the best things that came out of it were Captain Toad and Mario Maker. The former finally giving a personality to Toad is a similar manner Luigi’s Mansion did to Luigi, and it was a fun and well executed concept. The latter was the reason WiiU needed to exist, but sadly it’s community died off too quickly. Mario Kart 8 is obviously a great Mario Kart as well. Breath of the Wild though doesn’t really fell like it’s WiiU’s game similarly to Twilight Princess and GameCube, so in my mind it didn’t really do anything to elevate WiiU’s image anymore, brilliant as the game may be.

I had tons of fun with the WiiU... and although I´m in love with the Switch and a few PS4 games, I still have a huge backlog of games to play on it.
The latest games I got were Darksiders Warmastered Edition, Paper Mario Color Splash and Starfox Zero. Has barely touched them, though.
I´m yet to finish Fatal Frame 5, Rodea The Sky Soldier and the amazing Xenoblade Chronicles X.
On family reunions, the WiiU is still our platform of choice for local multiplayer, since my collection of Switch games is still small.

Oh, right, I forgot about both New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. Great 2D platformers!

Yes, great games and NSLU is almost always considered a NSMBU's DLC, obviously they came from the same engine but artistically NSLU seems like a more polished game, a little bit. Does anyone remember that 2013 was Luigi's year? Lol

My least favourite Nintendo console is already 6! Soon I won't even remember it.

I have often wondered what BotW would have been like, had it not had it's second screen features removed.

Zelda on WiiU was so different at the VGA before the Switch version. I bet they extinguished many features.

I feel the same, Zelda seems more like a Switch Port on WiiU, and it should have been the other way. It was supposed to be THE GAME that would show the full potential of the gamepad.
