Under-appreciated hardware is best hardware. I still need to pick up a Dreamcast one of these days too...

Happy birthday Wii U.

Happy birthday Wii U.

Best moment is when you still got the console and the 2nd hand market price will skyrocket in the future, thus ensuring you lot of money :P

Well, I mean in 10 years from now, lol.

That really happens! XD

But I want to have mine forever, it were with me at important moments in my life, always by my side.

I'm still surprised how low it sold. It should at least be above the Vita ..

I can't believe the Vita won that battle.

Happy birthday Wii U. I think it showed Nintendo that unless they can get a trend setter like the Wii motion sensing phenom their consoles must have portability to be successful.

Ugggh,

As a Nintendo fan, I feel like celebrating the birthday Wii U is like celebrating the birthday Great Depression. I mean, just because mini-golf rose in that era (like XCX on Wii U), doesn't mean I want to celebrate any other day than the one where it ended =D

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Congrats, Wii U. What a depressing story this machine had, though. Even OP's profile pic reminds me of one of its many, many, many bad news it had.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I still do not have the switch so I still use my wii u and love it. His games are incredible!

The WiiU version of Rayman Legends is one of the best platformers of all time, IMO. Top 5, probably.

Mario Kart 8 is the best game in that series, and probably a top 25 game of all time

Those two games alone make the Wii U a worthwhile system. Add to that a handful of other great games, and I am very happy with my purchase.

With that said, that giant controller screen thing is ridiculous. It looks like 90's tech, especially when compared to other tech that was on the market around the same time, like ipads. It turned off many people, I'm sure. And, frankly, anyone that thought it was a good idea to bring that monstrosity to market has no business making those kinds of decisions.

I have often wondered what BotW would have been like, had it not had it's second screen features removed.

The Wii U was a train wreck, just horribly conceived and executed in virtually every possible way from its core design to the name to the marketing to the games to the lack thereof. Nintendo didn't just drop the ball, they then tripped over it, fell down a flight of stairs, and landed in a sewerage outlet.

Sure, it had some amazing games like Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2, but in between them was months and months of droughts that made the Sahara look like the Amazon. Plus, many of their big games for it were disappointing missteps.

All that being said, I can't bring myself to hate it, it's just too much of a pathetic underdog, like a deformed puppy you just help but feel sorry for.

At the end of the day, it gave birth to one of the greatest games of all time in BOTW, an awesome new IP in Splatoon, and a far superior successor in the Switch. That's its legacy; it may have been shit, but that shit fertilized the fields from which Nintendo's current resurgence has sprung.
