Because Japanese developers primarily make games for the Japanese audience first.

As much as I disagree with Megiddo on a lot of stuff, I do agree with him here, namely for major titles, I do not think Japanese developers will ignore PS4/PC gigantic audience overseas. However companies like Level 5, will most likely start releasing exclusives like they did 3DS.

Middle Tier/Low Tier is where you might see a shift, namely with Sony's current Japanese policies.

Well I will admit that it isn't going to be as simple as I previously described. Multiple factors should be looked at. As for Japanese studios, I remain sceptical. Strictly speaking on triple A jp studios, of course they will continue to release games on other platforms, however, I think as costs and development time rise, these high end releases will become fewer with more time inbetween. An example of that is perhaps SE. Sure they will have a big triple A main FF title. But games like these will be fewer because they become costlier. What they will rely on is more and more of these smaller titles. However, when you have a powerhouse console that doesn't sell anymore combined with all that, the small audience will not ensure as much support as before. It will trickle as it goes. I do want to add, Sony wont stop making money in Japan. Mobile is very profitable for them.

As for mr "intellivision joypad has shoulders". I will be ignoring him because of the thread derailing effect he has with his no substance comments.

PS4 got the World but Switch got Japan.

Looks like Pac-Man got a little too eager and couldn’t wait three more weeks for Ultimate to come out. :P

But yeah, Nintendo has Japan by the balls and they ain’t lettin’ go.

If Switch sells 200k every single week for the rest of the year it ends up at 3.5 million. Are you expecting it to sell 200k next week?

It wont sell 200k next week or possibly the week after but it will every week in December with some possibly doing over 300k.

Well next week is Black Friday week so I wouldn't say it won't sell 200k just yet. In case you're wondering if BF week actually has an affect in Japan, last year Switch sold 87k the week before Black Friday, 145k on BF week. There were no game releases BF week so that's just a boost from BF.

145k last year, with no game release. So 200k this year for BF + Pokemon 2nd week is doable.

Maybe next week will not be 200k but after that probably evry single week will be 200k+, we could easily have 300k+ weeks also in December.

I'm not sure how that could be "easy".

If anything would have been "easy" to reach those numbers it'd be this week's sales where the two big holiday bundles launched.

This seems like blind optimism like how Labo was treated.

How? Holiday season + Smash Bros plus Pokemon effect, simple as that. Last year we still didnt had nothing in November and December from big releases and we had 270k week in December, this year with Smash and Pokemon Switch will destroy last year numbers. Actually we will most likely have couple of 300k+ weeks in December.

Thats wrong, Holiday season just starting in Japan, and most of people will buy consoles after Holiday season starts not on launch of this bundles, its not like they have good deals or anuthing with those bundles currently.

This doesn't have anything with Labo, we talking about clear facts here, Nintendo always has huge sales in Japan in December and this year have launch of Smash Bros and effect of Pokemon launch (reports saying that game has great word of mouth and that Pokemon will most likly contine to perform strong in any case).

Also, you have gut calling that "blind optimism", when you on other hand make thread where stated there is no chance that Nintendo will hit 100m software target this year.

Just a heads up, last year week before Christmas Switch sold 270k.

Another 10% on top of that during Smash-frenzy certainly is not out of possibility.

However after Pokemon + Smash bundle achieved 200k, seeing 100k increase from Smash alone is quite a stretch.

Smash Bros bundle has limited effect currently, you cannot play game before 7. December when game actually launches. Also, we have report that Smash Bros bundle is still available while Pokemon bundles are sold out for now. Smash Bros will have real launch in any case in December, not last week.

Nintendo consoles have, for the most part, always sold more than their Sony (and everyone else) counterparts in Japan but we STILL get these silly assertions that 3rd parties will magically start developing for Nintendo only because of it. Who knows maybe the Switch will be the one...MAYBE.

Sorry, what? That is some big load of revisionist history. Let's look at the math as Megiddo does:

PS: 19M > N64: 5.5M

PS2: 23M > GC: 4M

PS3: 10M < Wii: 12.7M (but notice how outside of Japan the Wii also is in lead, in NA it's 45M to 29M in favor of the Wii)

PS4: 7M > WiiU: 3.3M

PSP: 20M < DS: 33M

Vita: 5.8M < 3DS: 24M

So, in difference to a suspected Nintendo-preference from Japan, in reality Japan was more or less in line with the rest of the world. If Nintendos console was bigger, it was also in Japan. If Sonys console was bigger, than it also won in Japan.

For the 3rd-party stuff: winning consoles like DS, 3DS, Wii and Switch all got japanese 3rd-party support. The losing consoles did not.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

What is it with you and irony? Claiming that I'm off topic for pointing out the irony in that we went from criticizing doomsday ramblings about the Switch to your doomsday ramblings about PS4 in Japan. All the while you bring up an argument from another thread that a mod asked you to let go after your buddy was banned. Talk about being off topic. Smh.

I think the problem is that OTBWY is fully aware that you are taking every chance to take a stab at him.

I think I've talked to OTBWY at 2 occasions in total, but nice try Rol

You can help him though by suggesting to ease down a little on the use of irony.

Let's not derail this thread anymore than OTBWY already has with his doomsday ramblings about PS4 and "intellivision joypad has shoulders".

Regardless of software releases, Nintendo systems traditionally have their peak holiday sales in December within Japan, rather than in November.

Even with Smash Ultimate's release on 7th, Switch might even sell more for week 51 ending December 23rd like it did last year, but that's just a complete guess.

Anyways it's a good sign to see such high performance this early bringing Switch sales up year over year before the month of December. Not even last year had a 200K+ week in November even including Super Mario Odyssey's launch week and that was really the only big holiday title for Switch last year in Japan.
