If PS4 manage it next year it will be crazy, even with a good price cut it's fucking year 6 against a year 2 to 3 (where Switch should be peaking).

Very little ""detail"" that many  tend to forget...PS4 being out since 2013, and still dominating...VS a new console which is even 2 consoles in one, Home + Portable ;)  and we all know how much this is helping Switch.       PS4 is a Beast.

This is truly incredible. Nobody expect to be anywhere near Swich this year let alone beat it.

Then what sales were everyone expecting according to you?

PS4

PS4Pro sells about 1/5 of total sales and very likely without it sales of PS4 wouldn't be much impacted as most would just purchase vanila (100USD difference and all... just look if X1X have dented PS4/Pro sales even being stronger than both).

I disagree. Indeed, 1/5 sales are Pro sales. And a good amount of people who bought the Pro already owned a PS4 so there is an impact.

And don't compare to the X, nobody expected the X to reach PS4 Pro sales, 500$ is still way to expensive to compete with PS4 Pro.

A good amount sure, can you show exactly how much? Also can you show how many of these second time buyers wouldn't simply buy another PS4 for a different room in their house regardless of Pro being available? Get it, the impact of Switch being hybrid is much higher than any additional sales Pro is making. And funnily enough if you take 20% of PS4 sales this year it would still be tracking ahead of Switch.

Don't say nobody, there are people even in this thread crediting X1 60%+ increase on X1X existence. X1X is plenty more powerful and with better 4k implementation for 3rd parties (which is most of SW sales on both anyway) so many expected X1X to make a big impact.

Also as pointed out, when talking about aligned sales PS4Pro didn't exist at this point of the sales curve and PS4 was still 399, so 100 more expensive with a less big hitters being launched.

PS4 is a true beast, it is quite impressive to still hold fine so late and without pricecuts.

And even after all questioning it still manages to keep ahead aligned against PS2 (I don't think it will outsell it, but so far it been doing great).

I agree, no point in making the comparison with the PRO Model, 'cause we are talking about much more significant factors then a mid gen upgrade.  And XBox One X

is the most striking proof ;) The weekly Gap with PS4 and Switch is increasing, not decreasing ;)

Well I can't disagree with you =p

Go to see a lot of Amazon threads and NPD earlier on the year or last year and you'll see plenty of people expecting Switch to win. Even more when Sony project 16M for the year and Nintendo 20M. So at the very least they expected Switch to win.

Yeah bad wording by me obviously there were a few visionaries like myself who gave ps4 a chance but when Sony and Nintendo announced their forecasts it was a done deal for most.

Now it's cool that people thought that but it just highlights what an incredible achievement the ps4 has pulled off this year to be leading.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=235467 - Thread for predicting Switch sales in march, average prediction is roughly about 17.5m, predictions ranging from as low as 12m to as high as 23m, do you think the average prediction for PS4 sales was much lower then 17.5m at that time?

If we're only talking during the 20m vs 16m forecast period then how about this thread. - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=236417, I'd say the opinion on who would win 2018 is pretty much half and half. Hell some even predicting here that PS4 would beat Switch in 2019.

So it wasn't a "few visionaries" that thought ps4 would win and certainly not "Nobody expect to be anywhere near Swich this year"

Many people anticipated a close race this year, and it will end close with PS4 taking the win.

My original comment you quoted said this year so you'd need to check the threads from the end of last year. 3 months and 6 months into this year many were starting to see sense.

You're contradicting yourself. "but when Sony and Nintendo announced their forecasts it was a done deal for most."

The forecast they announced at the end of April.

Yeah I am but my original post that you replied to referred to this calendar year. You can't deny that. I added that when the forecasts were announced many were convinced switch would beat ps4 and it might do for the fiscal but not the calender like i said.

This sounds very very familiar
