Xenoblade 2

It's probably the ugliest I personally have played, but then I haven't played that many Switch games as I am quite selective.

Xenoblade 2 may be really low res and blurry when played portably, but when docked it's absolutely gorgeous, both technically and artistically.

For truly bad-looking Switch games, look at Troll and I, WWE 2K18, and Vroom in the Night Sky.

Eh, in tge post-graphics era of Minecraft, Miis and mobile, how are we supposed to judge this? Lumo, Tiny Barbarian DX and even Octopath Traveler all look very old on my Switch, but none of them are supposed to look like Call of Duty.
If I had to, I would take Lumo to task out of the three above, but how much can I criticize a game made by like three guys? If I were to restrict it to AAA games, I would have to select Octopath, but how do I really compare that to Fortnite or Skyrim?

Are you serious? I think Octopath Traveler looks great, much better than Skyrim and Fortnite.

Nintendo - Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee
i understand why the games had to look the way they do, in order to help normies be able to make the logical leap that these games and Pokemon GO are sister titles, but never mind that for a second, because these games are just not pretty to look at. SM and USUM had better shading and 3D models than Lets Go does, which is unacceptable. The character and NPC models have returned to a chibi style after years of trying to abandon it. Animations and details are about as dull and lifeless as you could ask for. And this was supposed to be GameFreak's debut console pokemon game for the Switch after nearly ten years of lackluster home console titles. I was going to say Pokemon Quest, but that is literally a console port of a mobile game, so it gets a pass.

Anything else - Every sports game
We are starting to get into the uncanny valley of how realistic these games are getting. when i first heard that 'realistic sweat physics' would be in FIFA 19 i could only ask "why would somebody want that?" human models will never look 100% accurate and i would prefer if we stopped now. look at RDR2, those models look fine. Even GTA V on the PS3 and 360 looked fine.

Wasteland 2 looks pretty unimpressive. Especially when travelling around the map.

Compared to last gen though, there aren't as many bad looking retail games.

Can't say I agree there, even docked it suffers from muddy, low res textures and crude character models.

And as hideous as Vroom is, I don't think it got a boxed release, so it's not eligible, though I agree on WWE 2K18.

I like Octopath's look too, but my point is, they are apples and oranges.  16 bit style applied to a 3D diorama vs 3D realistic or semi realistic games, how do we compare? If you put all three of those games up in a mall and asked randos which looks best, I am pretty sure the loser

is Octopath, but then again, maybe the retro look would get some votes. But again, my point is, in a world of Puyo Puyo Tetris, Splatoon, Final Fantasy XV, Octopath, Red Dead Redemption, Warioware, Breath of the Wild, Shovel Night, Destiny, Angry Birds, and No More Heroes, how do we decide ugliness?

Just like how we determine ugliness on anything else in life: through subjective opinion. That's what this thread is about, I think. Just because Octopath Traveler has a stylized look doesn't make it ugly. Although anyone is allowed to think it's ugly, of course.
