No, I won't "respect" EDGE scores now or in the future, because their reviews/scores are so inconsistent. But at least this time their RDR2 score was in line with my own opinion of the game.

Luckily I haven't pledged in the name of any review site/reviewer. Like someone esle...

You have with MC, so you can't back away from that now. Just like how you accept that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made by that extension. You admitted that. You can't have your cake and eat it too whatattime.

As for EDGE goes. You either accept all review scores or you don't. Same deal.

I meant a single review. Metacritic is a compilation of several reviews, so those "bad apples" are filtered.

I have said that Metacritic score is the universal "truth", not that it's the same score-opinion that I have. And I also accept that EDGE scores are part of Metacritic, but I don't align my opinion with EDGE and/or EDGE is not my "prophet".

I can tell you that GTA IV and GTA V both got 10s.  In the case of GTA IV, there was controversy because some people thought the review didn't point to a "10".  Honestly, I can't believe anyone gave GTA IV a 10, much less a publication where earning a 10 is supposed to be a rare event.  RDR1 got a 9, which is kind of amusing to me, as EDGE is supposedly all about gameplay and RDR1 was mediocre at best in that regard.

Personally, I would have been shocked if RDR2 didn't get a 10 from EDGE and I mean that in all seriousness.

It's a bit late already, but I noticed that these hadn't been posted here like they usually do. I wonder if RDR2's score has something to do with it? "EDGE is the one that counts." Did I get it right?

RDR2 Metacritic is still 97 and it's now the fourth highest 97, which is weird because it was third couple weeks ago and after that it has received only 10s or 100s. EDGE's score probably should have already raised it to 98 so I am not sure what's going on. But RDR2 is now officially the highest rated game of this generation.

 

It got a 75 on the 14th so no 98 ... yet. 

What 75? At least it's not there anymore. There is probably some tampering going on to prevent 98.

Each to their own but you'll struggle to find a publication on the internet or in physical form that is created with so much love for the gaming industry. To look at Edge review scores and judge the quality of that publication solely on the basis of whether you agree with those scores is doing them a massive disservice. Their reviews are detailed and balanced and crucially not bias toward any console. Hoping that they go tits up makes no sense to me - bad karma man you're better then that... 

Maybe you're right, and my comment is a bit harsh. I haven't looked at the publication as a whole in roughly 12 years, and yes, the reason I haven't liked them, for so very long, is because of their continually, IMO, poor reviews and review scores. Publishing contentious, eyebrow raising review scores really is their hallmark.
