Forums - Gaming Discussion - With Sony out of E3 2019, are you ready to admit E3 is not the climax of gaming news it used to be?

The situation, people are unwilling to admit the fact that Gamescom and TGS are much bigger video gaming exhibitions than E3 (and if you think Gamescom is a big show now, it also grows year over year too). Nintendo doesn't even pound out their hardest Directs during E3 anymore - IMO the Treehouse footage is usually more interesting; not just a 40-minute long clip compilation, but multiple 30 to 45-minute uncut video with a good mix of casual and hardcore fun. YET, everyone seems to focus on the fact that Nintendo isn't doing this all up on stage at the conference hall.

Sony has announced they're pulling out completely, and have no plans to go off on anything else relating to E3. Instead, they've decided they're going to explore another avenue when engaging their consumers.

In terms of that sinking ship that's E3, they're only the latest in a string of others who have gotten off. But look at Gamescom, the number of developers, press, and attendees that came last year was multiple times larger than E3; even more, are going to come this year. It makes sense though, most presenters don't want to blow their load THAT long before Holiday season; Gamescom and TGS come at more appropriate times.

Does E3 still get you excited?
Other thoughts on this?

It's an important as we make it. With limited Nintendo presence and no Sony presence, it's hard to get excited. It'll go the way of CES. Still important but not as big amongst gamers.

*stops*
*zips up pants*

wait .... it isn't?

Nope. That week is the week where we get shitloads of announcements still (even if we exclude Sony).

It’s still still far and away the event where we get the most gaming news.

The only reason Sony is skipping is because they dont have enough to show. They will be back in full force in 2020.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Gamescom and TGS bigger than E3? Fact?

That statement is funny by itself, but incorrect useage of the word fact is funny too. Nice joke thread.

It is a measurable fact. E3 fans talk up how huge it is, but when you measure it out, not just the size of crowds, but what the devs have out on display, it's actually quite small.
Being smaller than Japan's TGS is, frankly, a little sad.

Not to mention, there's  WAY more crowd participation with Gamescom than E3, and that's part of the fun.

Unlike E3, no one's pulling out at Gamescom.
Each year, more people are coming.

Limited presence? Why do you think that? They have a huge floor, multiple events, tree house live and a Direct. They dont have a liveshow of their games, but outside of that they are all in. in terms of presence,

THey are though, in terms of of visitors and excibitors they absolutely dwarf E3.

It's still the biggest gaming event. Sony not showing up is a because they know they can't live up to it this year. You can bet your ass that 2020 and 2021 will be big for E3's from Sony and even MS.

Long as I get my Nintendo directs I'm happy. Though I do enjoy seeing what other companies are up to, especially Ubisoft in recent years.

So? They're open to the public, E3 isn't. It should be expected that they'd have higher attendance.

E3 is still WAY bigger though because it's simply so much more important. TGS is fairly important too, but Gamescom isn't even a speck on E3's radar. There's like nothing good announced at Gamescom ever.

But it is.. you still in 2016?

It's the big show in terms of news and reveals with social media reaction and people jumping on a bandwagon.

Sony not being present opens the door for Xbox to really push the brand.
