Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony will not be at E3 2019 for the first time!!!

Wow..if that’s true it’ll give even more fuel for possible PS5 announcements in 2019, with a spring 2019 reveal at a separate event.
What else could be the cause for this?

I'd say this is confirmation that PS5 is NOT going to be out in 2019.  Sony wouldn't miss E3 the same year as launching new hardware.  PS5 2020 is a lock I'd say.

Yeah, I agree..2020, either spring or holidays seems more likely because of that. We’ll  see if that Resetera rumour will have some truth to it. It’s obvious Sony won’t ruin their sales by announcing it too early anyway.

My thoughts:

-No new PS4 exclusives to announce

-Several of their big titles Days Gone, Dreams, Death Stranding will be released before or around E3 (April-September), so they need big blowouts before E3.

-Leaving E3 really just for The Last of US 2 & Ghost Tsushima which isn't really enough to host a Playstation Conference.

-Showcasing Third Party, Multiplatform games at E3 is pointless now

-Obviously not ready to reveal the PS5 yet

-I don't think any of the existing PS4 games apart from maybe the THLOU II will be "cross gen" but I think PS5 will be backwards compatible and be able to render PS4 games natively at 4k/Unlocked FPS with a patch, just like PS4 pro.

So let me get this straight. Sony copy Nintendo because they choose to reveal the PS5 at their own show instead of E3?

Dude.. You're trying too hard. Besides, everyone copies everyone.

This is one really bad 4Chan level image that has been debunked for the most part. Dear lord, that the day would come that it would be shared here... low point. I mean, the first one already.. you need only look at patents and that pretty much does this in.

Easy now. No need to be hostile just because you're shown that Nintendo copies and is inspired as much as everyone else.

Regarding to bold, please provide the sources that debunk these.

Unfortunately, it's more like RIP E3.

E3 is just fine tho. Sony's E3 in 2020 gonna be pretty hype at this point it would seem.

Yeah, I'm exaggerating.  Butt, the significance of E3 has been declining for quite a long time now. I would say this is just another blow.

Well, not really.

Depends entirely on what the alternative is to this from Sony. As much as them not being at E3 will suck, whatever they decide to do may be just as good.

Well think about it like this, if Sony aren't there at all, then every AAA 3rd party game is actually going to look like an X1 exclusive, I'd wager that a drinking game for the MS show which involved even drinking a sip of water each time the word Exclusive is uttered would have you drowned at your PC.

Like I said in my article comment on this, before the holiday season is a very poor time to even hint that you're changing the playing field... when you are dominating the game as it stands, it would be like a team going 10:0 up and then announcing plans to sub out their Goalie.... for something different... like a can of Pepsi max in a dressing gown. Sony have said a few times this Generation that they were even shocked at the success the PS4 had... if they have stumbled onto a winning formula they shouldn't do a damn thing that could upset that, especially given they're not certain what caused it as they might not be able to repeat that again with the PS5, there was a lot of factors involved in making the PS4 the dominant selling beast what it is right now, and honestly Sony can't control or replicate those again, unless Sony force MS to rehire Don Mattick and send him out on stage to reveal another new system and then suggest that if people don't like it they can stick to playing the X360 again.

Also ... consider those people who've not bought a PS4 by now, surely they have to be the most casual / thrifty of gamer that after 5 years on the market now is the time they think to jump in, it's people like that in my opinion that could well tighten their purse strings yet again when the news of Sony stopping a 24 year tradition of going to E3 hits.

Absolute rubbish :)

Ms will definitely hover up lots of games to show at E3, but they wont be *Exclusive* that's totally different to showing them off at E3. Also Sony have like 6 major titles that have been announced and coming out, MS has what 2 or 3, they've been beaten every year, the gap in console sales is so big... missing an E3 and MS having a big E3 is going to have little effect on this generation... It's done MS is well beaten this gen.

Sony just has to drop the price to an official $199 at E3 and they win E3 without even being there.

This is rather funny, that you come here with a shitpost pic after getting annoyed that someone suggested Sony copied Nintendo. And call me hostile.

Anyway, the pic you posted is dumb and doesn't make sense. The context is a bit strange too. You said that Nintendo copies, but this suggests that either some claimed that Nintendo did it first, or is it that they got inspired by something else? Did Nintendo copy or get inspired to make Mario 64 from some obscure 1990 game? Hard to believe. As for the actual facts. The first one is not very honest. Digital pads, or just contacts in this case, have been there long before Mattel ventured into the console business. Hell, even Nintendo with their TV game pong consoles had those kinds of contacts. Widely used before any of that in calculators and such. So what is it, the D-pad? Just check this video on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnmMDzgTB7o . It's no secret that Nintendo with that gamepad popularized the form factor. We still use that NES gamepad form factor more or less today. Not a intellivision type joy stick phone form factor. Which brings me to the next thing, start and select buttons on the Atari 5200 is a little dishonest. They had different functions, there is no select button on the Atari controller btw. It has Start, Pause and Reset, which were buttons that used to be on the console itself, which Nintendo also had on Game and Watch etc (game mode and selection buttons). It's a dumb thing to compare cause they had different uses too. The third one.. shoulder buttons.. does the Intellivision controller even have shoulder buttons? Can they be considered shoulders? Those are it's primary fire buttons and they all do the same thing basically.

I can go on rambling but I have work to do and you already get the point I hope. When I already got 3 down, I think most of it isn't that hard to debunk either.

Nintendo showed that you can reveal a console outside of E3 and do well, and also (and most importantly) showed that you can launch a console outside of a holiday season and still sell very well, with the added benefit of having a second boost in sales during the first year once the holiday season kicks in.

Because of that, and always in my opinion, this will probably mean a PS5 reveal in late 2019, probably at PSX to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first PS console, focusing mostly on launch and cross-gen titles, and then launching the console in March 2020. Then, Sony will come back at E3 2020 as usual to show the titles for the rest of the year.

Please excuse my bad English.

I did not ask for what you find "hard to believe" and different enough to call Nintendo the inventor.

According to you, Nintendo wasn't inspired by neither the existing digital pads (whether it was from the Intellivision or calculators), wasn't inspired by Atari 5200's Start, Pause and Reset buttons because Nintendo added a Select button, and wasn't inspired by Intellivision's shoulder buttons because you personally don't consider them shoulder buttons (even though they are). Give me a break. I asked for sources. Not you biased opinion.

**Thread Warning***

Enough of the back and forth about who copied who, I've already banned one user in this thread, I don't want to ban anymore.

That's fucking dumb.
