Forums - NSFW Discussion - WTF With Japan?!

Lately I've been rather concerned about how Japanese female cartoon, comic and game characters tend to be in skimpy outfits.

No I'm not saying it's wrong, but it feels like it should be when said characters are only 14-17. How is this considered ok?!

I suppose it's a good thing if you've only seen 14-17 year olds so far.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

And yet in anime girls already have gigantic breasts and parade around in skimpy outfits, whereas over in North America that's pretty much pedophilia.

Do they think they can give it a pass because by then they look 18 or older?

Different countries have different moral standards. The age of consent in Japan is 13 and it's a male-dominated society.

So that's why we have things like the belly dancing scene from episode 6 of Suisei no Gargantia?

I don't watch anime, so I can't comment on this specific example. But yes, in general those things that you consider crazy are considered quite normal in Japan.

No, the age of consent in Japan is 18 (local law matters, not the national "base" law). Let's stop with the uneducated rumors if you want a real debate.

Male dominated society, yes, and it's way too much. Feminists should try to come here if they want to do meaningful stuff.

But anime is not considered really "normal" by most Japanese people, they know it's crazy, they just kinda accept it.

Well for me it's kinda uncomfortable, but I guess it'd be ok if the viewer was in the same age range as those girls. I don't really know how else to feel.

....You kids get offended by everything today. Japanese culture is sexualized, and anime is like that.

So you're saying we should be aroused by 14 year old girls in bikinis? >_<
