#7: If you take a look in the game's sound files, it becomes clear that if you ever reach 10,000 inhabitants, you'll get a message encouraging you to contact Sunflowers.

Merry Christmas, y'all! Hope you all get some cool games and enjoy the day. As for me? I just want #7 guessed.

#7 - This game is quite infamous for its confusing menus.
It's the only entry in this franchise to have two different versions, though the developers consider the two versions separate games.

Smash 4?

#10
- Route 47
- Second best selling remake of all time

#9
- Gets a new campaign next year
- Nostalgia

#8
- 30th aniversary game
- Millions of courses

#5
- France

#8
Dark Souls 3
Change YoY: +-0

As of right now, Dark Souls III is my game of the generation, though its possible that once I do revisit Bloodborne it might take that spot away. However, this shouldn't distract from the fact that FromSoftware have created the two absolute best games of the generation, and have done so in back to back years. To say that I'm excited for Sekiro would be an understatement. Dark Souls III is, as far as I'm concerned, a perfect way to end the series. It brought the overarching story to a close, featured callbacks to the previous two titles, but did them in a way that made sense in the game's story.

The gameplay was once again improved, and in my opinion Dark Souls III features the absolute best boss battles in the entire series. Almost every single boss is amazing, and challenging in the right way. This is a masterpiece of game design, and the best game released so far in any of the current gen consoles.

I was waiting for your guess, you've been doing well. Smash 4 is correct.

I can guess your games because I've actually played them. The others have weird obscure games that I know nothing about.

Btw, my games aren't very hard either. Any guesses?

8: Super Mario Maker

5: Pokemon X/Y

Anno 1602 (US: 1602 A.D.)

  • Windows PC
  • 1998
  • Construction & Management Simulation
  • Max Design / Sunflowers

The second game in the 'Anno' series on the list, and the first of the series in general. A real classic among me, a good friend and my mother. In the past, we used to play this game all the time in multiplayer. As such, this is without a doubt, my most played multiplayer game ever. In fact, my friend and me can still play this from time to time.

While the objective is more or less the same, being a much older game than 'Anno 1404' earlier in the list, gameplay is also much simpler. In 'Anno 1602's' case though, simpler really is even better. The seamlessness and ease of managing resources and goods to build your city is unparalleled. In another area, combat, the simpler nature is a godsend compared to the more bloated mechanics of the later games. Combat is secondary of course, and to be avoided if possible, because the objective is to just make a city as wealthy as possible and 'out-prosper' your rivals.

Interestingly enough, even though it's never mentioned in the game, the manual or the intro-cutscene, I'm pretty sure the game references the 'Golden Age' of my country judging by the architecture of the buildings, the nautical theme, the trading of spices and the exact year "1602" being an important one. Though it has no bearing whatsoever on the excellence of the game, for a Dutch person, that's a nice extra.

All correct!!

#9 is the only non-Nintendo game in my top 10. It's on 3 different Nintendo consoles, though.

#6: The quintessential tycoon game. And yes the second one is better than the first one.

Last chance to guess these before I go away for a week tomorrow.
#4: (1) The sun illuminating the home of the gods is just an illusion. (2) Will you perpetuate the cycle of the gods, or let the age of dark take over? (3) The game that every difficult game that is now released is now compared to, whether it fits or not e.g "Dead Cells is the [name of my #4] of Metroidvanias"
#3: (1) A space combat sim, set 32 years after the events of the first game and tells about the return of the alien race that almost destroyed humanity in the first game. (2) Developed by Volition before they became known for the Saints Row and Red Faction games. (3) Released in 1999 to critical acclaim, but poor sales, leaving the story on a cliffhanger that will likely never be resolved.
