Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are you a fan of the series your Smash main is from?

My mains are Shulk and Marth and yes i would say im a fan of both series. In fact i preatty much played all of every characters respective games except a few.  Also great to see another metroid fan. I wanted to main Samus, but thought she was a bit too clunky in smash 4. Gonna try to main Ridley after i have been preatty much rioting for him to make it in :) Metroid Prime trilogy is also the best video game trilogy ever made. Its perfection!

Marth: Dabbled with his series here and there. Played through Lyn's arc in Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade, but the only games I beat in the series are Awakening and TMS#FE (if that counts lmao). I heard Marth's games of origin haven't aged particularly well, including the DS remake, so meh.

Shulk: Xenoblade Chronicles is probably my favorite RPG of all time that isn't called "Persona" so yeah. I really need to replay it sometime.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I main Link, and yes I am a fan.

Smash 4 is a bit wierd because I played a set of characters but never felt like I had a main. But all those characters, Fox, Falco, Samus, Marth, Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Mario Pacman, Donkey Kong, Meta Knight, Shulk, Sheik and Bayonetta, I've either played most of their games, or a game they're in the franchise.

Still what bothers you is a big deal in the sense that people can get interested in the franchise after playing Smash, which happens a lot. Fire Emblem being the golden example.

I'm more bothered by people asking for characters in smash when they haven't played a single game in their franchise. Though even that doesn't bother me if they're genuinely interested in getting their games and such rather than simply being part of the bandwagon..

I main Kirby and Samus and I'm a fan of both characters' franchises.

It was my favourite video game franchise ever until Breath of the Wild ruined it.

Link and Cloud. Yes, I am a huge fan of each series, Final Fantasy was my favourite series for decades, until Xenoblade Chronicles X knocked it to #2, and Breath of the Wild knocked it down to #3.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Zero Suit Samus is my main choice, but I absolutely love the Metroid series. Honestly without Brawl, I would have never tried Metroid or even Pikmin anyway. Its quite similar with Ultimate, as I'm considering trying Splatoon 2 and the new Animal Crossing.

Wait... what?

The Wii was my first Nintendo console, so I only really knew of Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda before then. Brawl was my first exposure to those series. I've played through The Metroid Prime Trilogy, Other M, and Super Metroid as well as Pikmin 1 and 2, but not 3 (as I skipped the Wii U). Would be great to see Pikmin 3 get ported to the Switch, but I know it relied upon the Gamepad a lot.

Sure, all that's cool. I was more so referring to the fact you said "if it wasn't for Brawl, I wouldn't have ever tried Brawl".

Edit: also Pikmin 3 didn't rely on the Gamepad at all. It was built to be played on Wiimote+Nunchuk, in fact touch controls only came in a patch several months after release.

Oh wow, I never even spotted that! Thank you! Of course, I meant to say Pikmin hahaha.

And that's brilliant, hopefully it eventually does it get a port, then! As I'm sure it'll still be a few more years until we get Pikmin 4.
