I made Link my main because i am such a Zelda-fan

I main Lucina. I'm not a fan of the game she's from, but Fire Emblem is in the running for being my favorite Nintendo franchise.

Of course. Pikmin's one of my favourite franchises; I'm very happy my main, Olimar, is looking scary so far, he needed a buff from Sm4sh.

Same goes for my other mains, Lucina, Ice Climbers and DK (I enjoy Fire Emblem, Ice Climbers and every DKC game outside of TF). The only exception is Yoshi, I love him as a character, but his games haven't traditionally been that great. I liked Yoshi's Story and Woolly World, but Island DS and New Island were both crap and the original SMW2 was eh too. Conversely, though Pokemon as a whole is my favourite series, most of the characters in Smash bore me. I main Jigglypuff/Squirtle from time to time, but dislike Lucario and Pikachu, couldn't care less about Greninja and am neutral with regards to Charizard and Ivysaur. I would have preferred other Pokemon over them, none of them really appeal to me.

Link has been my main since the original, and the Zelda series is possibly my all time favourite (that or Super Mario).

I guess the people playing ZSS are more in love with... her expressive femininity, than with the Metroid series.

Anyway, I was so intrigued by Ryu's moveset in Smash Wii U that I bought SFV at a discount. But it turned out to be a really difficult game and I'm getting too rusty for competitive games like that. So in my case, no (but I gave it a try).

But Super Punch-Out is so fun and the best boxing game ever!!

I don't think I really main any one but the large group of characters I use most often mostly come from games I enjoy e.g. Cloud, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Dedede, ZSS, Bayonetta, Mr G&W, Yoshi, Captain Falcon, Link, Bowser, Pac Man, Mega Man. On the other (Master)hand, I also often play with some Pokemon and Fire Emblem characters and I don't like those games much.

I played mostly Link in Brawl, and I had never played a Zelda game at that point.

I main ZSS. I'm a moderate Metroid fan. I've played through all of the mainline games except the original and Prime 3.
