Just take the list of highest scoring games on Mentacritic, and remove all non-AAA games.
Red Dead Redemption 2
God of War
Celeste
Forza Horizon 4
Dead Cells
Into The Breach
Monster Hunter World
Also Spiderman perhaps, because it wasn't that far off and it's selling very well.
God of War
Red Dead Redemption 2
Spider-Man
Monster Hunter World
Only games I can think of, I'd also mention Smash Ultimate if that came out before the deadline.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

You must have not played GOW or probably don't own a PS4 or both. cause thats the only way someone can make such a statement. Unless being a fully open world game (as opposed to the more linear open world of GOW) is a gauranteed shoe in for GOTY, then yes there is no chace for GOW. But if both games are taken on their own merit the its gonna be a really tough decision for anyone to make having to pick between those two games. Even spiderman has some merit too. |
I played the first God of War, didn't like it and never touched the series again. it's just not my cup of tea, similar as I didn't touch Super Mario Odyssey, as I don't care for Mario.
But let's be serious here, God of War has a Meta of 94, Spider 87. RDR II has 97. And moreover, if a jury decides on a GOTY, then half of them will have never played an exclusive, but all of them a big multiplat. That doesn't mean an extraordinary exclusive can get the title, but GoW is rated behind RDR II, so it is quite unlikely it gets picked.
RDR2, Spider-Man, God of War and Monster Hunter World.
And most likely RDR2 will win most of GOTYs, when I feel God of War deserves it.

It's called an open world. Most awards seem to love those.
Just thought, I know RDr2 is primarily a 3rd person shooter or action game. But it can also be played primarily in 1st person (I playing it that way). Could it therefore win both awards?

I can only dream.

There's no differentiation between FPSs and TPSs on The Game Awards.

Oh, I meant GotY awards in general, as I know a few places do give separate awards.
