Insanity. I'd guess ps4 version 12m xbox 5m.

This will sell an insane amount especially when the online will be updated for years to come. Gta v online caught them off guard and it was tricky getting things to work on the ps3 especially but on the xbox one and ps4 there will be no such problems. I wonder will they even discount the game this year.

17 million sent to retailers, not sold to final consumer. But we still need to take into account the digital copies sold.

BTW, if with all these sales they didn't brake even with development costs, they are making a huge mistake not releasing it for PC on day 1.

Probably over 15m sold through.

OH BOOOY !
Here I thought 15M after the Holidays would have been fine ...
Although, knowing this is the biggest game of this year, retailers must have crazy stocks already available.

Yeah, they shipped a ton of these, but I still wonder how they're selling through. I never imagined that gamers would be so starved for this game. It's not exactly an answer for GTA VI. Maybe there's a lot of people that just wanted a big open-world something.

And all of this before the multiplayer

That's cool and all Rockstar, but can we get an update on BUlly sequel?

No but real talk, RDR 2 is amazing. Definitely one of, if not the best games this gen. Congrats to the best studio, hands down. No one comes close.

All signs suggest Bully 2 is their next game. We've had multiple reliable Rockstar insiders mention it, as well as an artwork leak and a casting call leak now.

I wonder how Rockstar will get away with a Bully sequel in the current social-political climate we live in. A game in this day and age where we play as a teenager who beats up not only other teenagers, but also kids and adults, would give politicians and sjws a field day, they would certainly try to ban it for inciting violence in schools. I remember that Bully raised a lot of concern before release, and many countries tried to ban it. So I think that a sequel with far more realistic graphics, details and gameplay mechanics, will probably raise even more attention.

You would understand the excitement if you played Red Dead Redemption. There are also a huge GTA 5 playerbase who were sold on it being a Rockstar game. Its anything but another open world something, its the best open world game ever made.

Glad to hear it, quality work deserves attention and profits. And it's a single player adventure at that! Between this and AC: Odyssey, we're once again seeing that single players is far from (red) dead, on the contrary. And at the same time; Bethesda are poised to release a wart on the Fallout universe by making it something no one asked for and Blizzard are cocking up by choosing a damn mobile game to end their Blizzcon. Take note, single player games are just as relevant as ever.

End of 2016 hardware sales:

Wii U: 15 million. PS4: 54 million. One: 30 million. 3DS: 64.8 million. PSVita: 15.2 million.

Uhm uhm, someone has forgot to mention God of War and Spiderman in his post. Interestingly, these four games sold more than any other game in their franchise.

RDR 2 sold more than RDR in 8 days

AC Odyssey was the fastest selling AC game on current gen

Spiderman was the fastest selling Spiderman game

God of War was the fastest selling God of War game

Believe it or not, but at one store chain in Brazil they were commenting on how RDR2 didn't made the same strong sales as GoW and Spider-Man. Sure that may be something that long term will be reversed even on their store, but it's curious enough to mention. That may have something to do with the fact that Sony 1st party games launch for 200 (and you can find for 179 on greyshops) against 250 of RDR2, plus exclusives generating hype and all.
