Forums - Politics Discussion - Democrats took control of the house, now what?

I see some people getting a little heated after catching up on this thread. Remain civil with insults and insinuations please. We've proven were able to have civil debates on politics on these forums. Let's keep that trend going.

They will just sit there collecting pay checks

Remember when democrats controlled everything and we got Romneycare? Enjoy :)

We can all agree that there is going to be bacchanal. I for one can't wait to see those infamous taxes.

Sessions will resign or more accurately be fired. Trump will replace session with someone he believes will reign in Mueller. The House run by the Dems will throw every tool under their control to protect Mueller. If Trump and his new dog tries to stymie the investigation, the house will just take over demanding all evidence collected so far and then appoint Mueller as their new dog to continue whatever the hell he is doing.

The house will subpoena Trump personal finances, stuff will get real and maybe go to court. Trump Jr is going to get slapped with a bunch of perjury accusations and probably be looking at jail time. President Trump will make all kinds of threats and will get unhinged, go off his meds and shoot up the white house. Sessions will come back to the white house riding a pale horse and enact some southern justice to Trump and family.

Tillerson will join up with Comey and they will form a group called the white panthers and enlist Sally Yates, Preet Bharara, Michael Flynn, H.R MCMaster, Christopher Wray, Anthony Scaramucci, Sean Spicer and Bannon

Nikki Haley will run for President in 2020 with Hope Hicks as her Vice President.

It makes me very worried that after everything the left has done over the last 2 years, from trying to intimidate people through harassment and violence, to filling the airwaves with non-stop propaganda, and ESPECIALLY with how far left their candidates are moving, that there are still enough people in this country willing to vote for them to even be COMPETITIVE.

It really makes it feel like half of the country will vote for them no matter WHAT they do. And, especially with extremists like Ocasio-Cortez (moronic extremists, at that) winning in a LANDSLIDE, it just reinforces my fears that the next time the left REALLY gains power, Civil War is a question of "when", not "if".

Because silly, people have been demonizing the left and the right but in reality, they are supposed to be ideas that we share with each other, not something to be used to uniquely identify someone as evil or bad.  I am left leaning when it comes to politics.  I am not evil.  I don't hurt people.  I am not violent.  I don't harass people.  99% of the people on the left and right are normal people.   If somehow you really believe the things you said then you are being manipulated.  I can look at myself, read your comment, and know you are being manipulated.

It was the third biggest swing in half a century.

They know that, but their blind pride and ignorance allows them to spin a loss into a success. It's quite astonishing.

Very charming comment :P

I'd say it was business as usual. It's a normal midterm election outcome with the president's party losing votes. It was neither a huge win for the Republicans, as Trump tried to suggest on Twitter, nor a big democratic wave with dramatic losses for the incumbent's party. Pretty standard, actually.

Oh, I didn't know that. It looked very typical to me compared to the midterms under Obama. I read FiveThirtyEight for data journalism and they also said the election was one "Without a cohesive narrative". I still think the election outcome was rather typical. Swings in general have gotten larger due to a more diverse society with more swing voters. It's the same in Germany, where I live: Forty years ago a swing of +3.5 points towards the social democrats was massive for them. Today, parties lose or gain around 10 points between elections regularly.

Wait, what?! At worst, his tax returns will just embarrass him.
