US Midterm Elections 2018- Dems take the House, GOP Keeps the Senate.

Forums - Politics Discussion - US Midterm Elections 2018- Dems take the House, GOP Keeps the Senate.

Who did you vote for?

GOP Rep and GOP Senator 20 30.77%

Democrat Rep and Democrat Senator 38 58.46%

GOP Rep and Democrat Senator 0 0.00%

Democrat Rep and GOP Senator 4 6.15%

Third Party/Other 3 4.62%

Total:65

The GOP will argue whatever they can when Democrats take a lead huh. Sinema was leading in polls all the way until election night, doesn't seem too far off she would regain the lead when votes from a democratic-leaning county are counted. But hey, continue to blame voting fraud because your party is losing.

[edit:  original was too harsh.

[You say many, but I presume this means "not all".  I would still say that any required voter ID should be free; otherwise it's a fancy poll tax.  Do you support/accept or oppose poll taxes?]

They all could be for all I know. I just didn't say all, because if there was one that wasn't then someone would come in an cherry pick my comment saying that's not true, like you did.

You already ignored my first three paragraphs that make the last one meaningless. An ID costs like $25. If you can't F*cking afford an id, then you should be getting government assistance. OH, and as I said, to get assistance, you need an ID.

And you know what poor people consume more of than people ell off? Alcohol and tobacco. Both which REQUIRE an ID.

Is is a fancy poll tax? No. Life is incredibly hard without an ID. You can't legally get gov't assistance, drive, drink, smoke, have a bank acct, get a job, ect. All those things you need to do illegally without an ID. So pray tell me, why someone would not want an ID. Getting one makes ones life infinitely easier.

Well, clearly SOME people get by without ... millions of people, apparently.  And at least some of the activities you mention can be done with ID that does not count as voter ID in these laws that we are talking about.  Not to mention edge cases like this guy and edge cases when it comes to basic civil rights are still important.

I ignored your other paragraphs because they are irrelevant to the specific question of whether you're okay with (hypothetically) requiring an ID that requires money to pay for it.  Which you didn't answer.

I mean, your own argument brings up a pretty evil catch-22:  "if you can't afford an ID, you should be on public assistance, only you need ID for that" ... so what, they're just completely fucked?  Is that the conclusion I should be drawing here?

Although I'm not sure exactly what gov't assistance you're referring to—food stamps don't have ID requirements as strict as these laws, or that's what I gather from this website

SE Florida needs to get their crap together with these ballot designs. Butterfly ballot in 2000, black box & triangle ballot in '08, and this year people missed the marquee Senate race tucked in the bottom-left corner below the instructions in Broward County. More votes were cast for Ag commissioner there ffs!

They know demographics are shifting against them, so they try to obstruct votes and make it hard for people to vote as it favors them. When it doesn't go their way they cry bloody murder.

It's sad that a party that openly tells their supporters to harass Republican party staffers and make them uncomfortable, condones mob violence and then threatens the American people telling them that civility can return only once they are given back power would be given any kind of political victory by the people in this election. Americans beware, this taste of blood will only embolden the criminals in the Democratic party to get far more extreme and civility will not return. This election was a chance to really seal the coffin on the Democrats but unfortunately it looks like we will be taking the far uglier road.

^ With the things the President has said about the media and praising those who attack them, I really don't think you want to go down that road.

It will be the ugly road for the Republicans, the demographics shift is turning against them as time goes on and they're not going to be able to "demonize" groups of minorities for much longer. Trump's brand of politics is more of a dying last gasp of frightened old people and I doubt they will be able to find another TV personality once his 70-something-year-old ass washes out from the White House.

An organized response is condoned when you have literal Neo Nazis marching on the streets, and yes they will always be met in force because that's the only way to deal with that kind of scum. You forfeit the right to "civility" when you're dog whistling to Nazis, putting children in cages, etc. etc. The Republicans are the ones that have shifted to the extreme ever since the Tea Party, welp, there will be an response from the other side. One side can't be the one always asked to compromise and be reasonable while the other side has lost their damn mind, and many Republicans even admit the right has gone off the deep end.

Trump's era will end and then there will be a dilemma for the Republicans because the fact of the matter is the under 40 year old population of the US is overwhelmingly diverse, mutli-ethnic, and much more liberal in their view points than the current Republican base which is literally dying out. As soon as he's out, watch them scramble to try and "rebrand" and disassociate from him just like they want nothing now to do with the Bush-era.

Dude, people thought the Democrats were dead after the Civil War, after the Vietnam War, and after three successive electoral annihilations at the hands of Reagan and Bush Sr., combined with the country's oldest and deadliest enemies collapsing under the GOP's watch. You really think after all the things they've been through over the years, embracing the SocJus crowd is the thing that's finally going to kill them off?

I don't get why people assume that a more multi-racial/cultural population inherently means more Dem voters. That is far from reality, and will only be less so in the future. We're already seeing trends of this with the Hispanic, Black, and Asian populations. Hispanic vote for Trump was like 33% and black support has more than doubled just in 2 years. They're increasingly realizing they owe the Dems nothing, as the Dems haven't exactly done much to help their communities either, and are merely using them to get votes. Many are increasingly valuing the freedom and independence in paving their own way in life and working hard to succeed in America rather than the crippling/handcuffing that comes with relying on handouts and welfare.
