I don’t see it happening.

I get the feeling a lot of people are talking about hype, but I don’t see many actually excited to play it. It’s not like Zelda and Mario last year. I’d like to see it sell really well because I like seeing Nintendo be successful, but a B-tier Nintendo game like Smash being pushed as an A-lister title feels like one big lie.

Maybe if they had an even more robust Subspace Emissary Mode - or something compelling and fresh - but aside from more content, the game looks like more of the same: and that is why I think there’s not a huge amount of excitement to actually play it.

To be fair, Zelda and 3D Mario are B tier as well.  So Smash falls basically in the same category.  None of them have the same selling power and Pokemon, 2D Mario or Mario Kart.

I think the Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch Bundle, even if it doesn't necessarily count, will be huge, along with the standalone, the Smash Bros. Ultimate Regular Bundle (Game + Pro Controller), and the Limited Bundle (Game + GameCube Controller + GameCube Controller Adapter). Plus, we're already seeing the pre-purchase on the eshop is huge, already ranking near or at the top of the charts along with games like Diablo III and Super Mario Party. Thus, I think it will do well.

Any Switch titles have come close to it?
But I say it has a chance

Pocky Lover Boy!

If they can put some other key franchises in there like Minecraft, Kingdom Hearts, Banjo Kazooie, Crash, Spyro, Resident Evil, Rayman, Halo, Doom, Dragon Quest, etc. Then yes. I do anticipate at least two of those in DLC.

They would probably announce anything DLC (post-Piranha Plant) a couple months or so after launch...unless they just want to show a cinematic tease of a character at the Game Awards. It just all depends on where they are at the DLC planning, since Sakurai mentioned they have not started yet because the base game, itself, is going through debugging before going gold.

With 8 weeks left, Ultimate has reached 554k in preorders. Things are looking good for it

From Nintendo VS Account: Smash Ultimate is the "Best Pre-selling Nintendo Switch Game" and "Best Pre-selling Smash Game". Safe to say that this record will be shattered

I rarely necro threads or do old post quotes...but given the numbers that just came out, this is too low hanging a fruit for even me to pass up. :P

This was quite an easy prediction to make
