Forums - General Discussion - I got in a foot chase with some shoplifters

Good on you for trying to do the right thing. But here's the thing, most employers and managers would not give a damn and would not put themselves in a situation of risk for the theft of some minor stolen goods.

Most managers/employers would actually fire you for chasing someone down.

They don't want the liability. It's cheaper for them to let the perp get away with whatever they stole than dealing with a dead or injured employee that tried to play hero.

My mom would have caught them. She was one bad mother... mother. What actually happened was that she used to own her own business and on occasion get robbed by young punks. On those few occasions, those punks thought they were smart enough to hide their identity. Well, Mom would comply with the money, punks leave, she'd call the cops to ID them, punks arrested. I remember once preventing a team of shit-for-brains from stealing by standing at the entrance anticipating a ruse.

Lmao man i knew this was a spurge thread when I saw the title

They'll be back. They'll shoplift at other shops for a while but will come back eventually. All you have to do next time is be patient and capture the weakest after the theft. He'll rat out his mates.

The ending was a little anticlimactic but you told the story very well.

Those little shits will be back, so prepare yourself for the sequel.

Don't get killed or hurt over stuff that doesn't belong to you. I like your moxie, though. You ever consider being a cop? It's easy to get into, addicting, and opens a lot of doors for other professions.

You're a dumb ass with your dumb thread. First. You call cops dumb for some petty ass theft at a store. Let the police force bend over backwards for you and do a manhunt for your $15 loss. And I hope next time, you cause them to crash or hurt themselves running from you, and they sue your dumb ass for everything you have. You can't chase anyone Wallmart security. YOU are liable for that, if any injury occurs. Stop taking the law into your own hands. Stay in your store like a good employee, and file the paper work. You're security, you can't even lay hands on people, or do anything in the parking lot. Can't stand idiots who trash police for no reason.

i dont think i would had chase them. the only time i had chase a shoplifter, i just had to run 3 meters because the genius had the idea to take an ipod an run as fast as he can outside. but he choose the wrong door, and try to ran through the entrance door. Which do not have a sensor to open it automatically from the inside, only from the outside.

So he litterally knock himself out on the door. easiest thieft catch ever...

They don't care about the liability they have to pay for the employees, it's actually the offender of the crime. If he gets hurt, even if guilty, the store or the employee is liable if he is being chased or whatever. This is why national stores have no chase and such policies. You aren't police, and you should know not to touch anyone. Ever.

Plot twist.

Your store has poor sales so the Store owner secretly told local kids to steal from his store so he can claim insurance, however did did not envision a heroic employee would try to stop them.
