I got in a foot chase with some shoplifters

Forums - General Discussion - I got in a foot chase with some shoplifters

As I was walking up to the front of my store, to protect my identity I work at Sears and my real name is Buck Naked, and another Manager shows me an empty BB gun case. I immediately ask how long ago was this, and they said they just walked out.

So I walk out and around the building just to see if they dumped a.nything off as we have been having people break open our locked movie cases behind the building. All of a sudden from behind a dumpster a kid pops his head out, no he was not homeless and giving a blow job for mcdonalds money, he was with his two friends changing their coats around. So smart, so they would not be caught by the stupid police. Anyways kid one sees me and tells his two friends and they panic for an second then two take off one way and the other one goes kind of towards me but in the direction of the street. So you guessed it, despite not wanting to get shot or stabbed with a black plague infused needle mixed with heroin I chased after him.

He must have been a prized athelete because we leapt over large plant beds, crossed a busy street that I found was just as easy to do as it is done in movies and lastly he jumped a ten foot fence. That is where this tale ends. I got up on the fence and looked over not able to see where he went. Surely, I did yell off to him that he was just making it worse on himself, but it was to no avail.

As I was walking back to Kmart or whatever I said above I saw the other two in the distance run across another street into the woods. ...

They would soon find out I was the most determind Manager they would ever battle, as I walked quickly to my car and sped off to the ither side of the woods so I could follow them and call the cops when they entered their mansion or wherever professional theives live.

Sadly that did not happen, I never found them and just went back to my store to see how it all started on camera. Proudly always knowing that I made those punks work for their 26 dollars in theft, which is 5 dollars worth at the pawn shop and a beatings worth if their Grandma finds out.

Would you have caught them vgchartians? Why or why not in the comments below..

Aren't you a WM manager? When I worked there and ran electronics you'd get in a fuckton of trouble for chasing shoplifters.

I'm saddened to hear they got away though. But they'll come back, they always do.

No, see above, I work at Home depot.

Yeah, they will be back, but we also give their pictures to the police and weekly they go to the local high schools.

On the list of criminals I would chase, shoplifters really aren't one of them. But nice try.

This reminds me of the kevin james chase scenes in any random movie

Good on you for trying to do the right thing. But here's the thing, most employers and managers would not give a damn and would not put themselves in a situation of risk for the theft of some minor stolen goods.

I must say tho I did enjoy the action scenes as depicted in this post. You must be very fit and athletic yourself.

Most employers will expressly tell you not to chase shoplifters, not to follow them out of the store, and not to accuse them of theft.  Doing so can very well result in being written up or even fired.  Some places only train and authorize Loss Prevention associates and Assistant/Head Managers, though others probably send Department Managers and such to training courses, as well.  If nothing actually goes wrong or there is no real publicity generated then getting away with it likely comes down to how local management feels about it.
