Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony ramping up censoring of Japanese games, now forcing all Japanese games to go through Western content inspections

That sucks. Whats the enjoyment in most Japanese games without the nudity (I don't play them so someone please explain how anyone gets actual enjoyment from them lol)

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I believe it is called Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart, and is a game that is not planned to be released outside of Japan currently.

Thanks! I'm the friend he was asking for.

That's np, I'll pre order you a copy too just in case they sell out!!! Gotta make sure you get that new.... unless you have a sponge and a black light.

Gotta say, FFVII had very little nudity.... other than the Honey Bee Inn!

japan becoming so conservative again is ruining fun and freedom :(
the constant censoring of things that shouldn't be is increasing rapidly.

Looks like Sony is doing amazingly.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The world is moving away from the over-sex content, and on their console Sony is prolly getting more grief from folks than its worth.

The funny thing is I don't think Nintendo ever really imposed censorship after the SNES days, it was more live devs censored because they wanted to.
Also with Nintendo's demographic it most games with that kind of content weren't developed for the system.
But R rated games were always there to an extent and Nintendo of Japan has NEVER been part of the censorship debacle themselves anyway.
And the recent censorship problem a few years ago? All of them were Nintendo IPs. They have the freedom to choose to do so and it's somewhat understandable if frustrating. Bayonetta and devil's third was left intact, and senran kagura as a series STARTED on the 3ds.

Sony here though, is REALLY stepping out of bounds here by restricting content from other devs that they should have NO hold over at ALL.

Can anyone detail what this is/involves or requires of the developers?

"They're apparently making Japanese companies go through content inspections that are all conducted in English"

Translating the whole game script. And they do. It's not cheap.

TBH it doesn't matter that much. The best VNs that have sexual content are the one that actually make use of it for the plot, if the sexual content is secondary it can be cut off the game to begin with. And if the sexual content is necessary all-ages versions on console loose their purpose.

99% of VNs run on any pc that can run Win7 at most, and most people have a computer that's not completely obsolete.

This is still ridiculous on Sony's end though.

Edit : Just saw the OP mentionning "all japanese games". So far I've only see 18+ pc VNs all-ages ports and Senran Kagura affected, all japanese games seem like a bit of a stretch. I guess it can be verified looking at all-ages japanese language exclusive games releasing without delay.

Those Japanese comments... oof

And for those who ask

おーい ゴキブリは硬派だから女キャラは全員ブサイクでもいいってさー性欲関係ないってw
"Hey! Roaches are tough. So,they are cool to have all of their female characters be so plain and ugly. Not like it has anything to do with any urges they have. lulz"

FYI, with "Roaches" he means cockroaches, which is slang for Sony fans in Japan.

Wont really affect me since I don't see the point in many of these oversexed parts in games, except for a quick laugh. I still think developers should have the freedom to make whatever they like though. Censorship is a slippery slope.
