No game is worth the ridiculous working hours and conditions that are far too common in the video game industry. Rockstar is just the latest in a long line of examples of this. What's even more stupid is that working such ridiculous hours isn't even worth it for the developer. After a certain point (around 50 working hours a week or so), a person's productivity falls very quickly, making them largely ineffective in the workplace. Over 60 hour work weeks just make no sense from any point of view. It's completely pointless, and hurts the health of the workers, and doesn't even result in faster work. You can maybe get away with that for a week, but after that it's useless.

How dare they ask people that they are paying to work, to do more work. These poor employees who have to sit warm, dry, fed for longer periods of times when a deadline draws near in an industry known for deadlines and crunch and not a 9 to 5. Rockstar need to lay these overworked people off, it's totally unfair that they have a time consuming and demanding job or give them all half their hours with half their pay and double the team size! That'll solve it. They shouldn't be allowed to choose to work, it's a social injustice and these people need to be laid off!

I'll never understand why people thinks it's alright to butt into other people life and career choices. Now rockstar will be forced to cut peoples hours to avoid backlash in the future and people who need the over time will be shot outta luck. Also, never believe a 'previous' employee of anything, they may not be exactly truthful.

Fire them all and make sure they have to break their backs with labour intensive jobs in the future with less hours and less pay! We can all agree that their lives are better when we choose their career paths for them? Right? How dare they choose their own way in life.

Geralt has shown he is against this belief of yours where people should be used as cogs like the movie metropolis and discarded when they fall ill or dare complain. Most of the things you comment every week are things geralt wouldn't approve of if he was real. If i find it a bit ironic he is your avatar. What is your line of work if we may know?

Unless Rockstar us using slave labor, all of this is irrelevant to me. If the working conditions are poor, people should work elsewhere. If they continue to work in poor conditions, there must be something that makes it all worth while.

In the last couple decades, people with the skills to make video games have been in super high demand, even in less than great times in the business cycle. They could all get jobs elsewhere if they wanted. They clearly don't want to.

Are you seriously using "your avatar wouldn't agree with that if they existed" as a counterargument against someone?

I hate the complaining about this. They should be worked like they are, because that's why their games are so good. I want to enjoy the very best game that's possible to make, and if there are a few casualties along the way to make that happen then that's just the nature of the beast. They're not forced to have this job and they can quit if they don't like it. People should be more concerned about getting the absolute very best product possible than about the working hours of strangers they'll never even meet. Strangers that can get another line of work if they dont like their current one.

Seriously?  Rockstar doesn't need to cut people's hours, they need to manage their own time better before the final weeks of the project.  You do realize that "Crunch" actually decreases productivity and imposes health risks on the employee, right?  But, f*ck it, what do you care as long as you get your GOTY?  Also, these aren't just the words of "previous employee's".  The co-founder of the studio bragged about the crunch because he mistakenly thought that kind of mismanagement was something to be proud of.

Game developers could unionize and strike to strenghten their positions. It worked in other industries, why not also in video game creation?

As long as everyone fights for himself/herself, nothing will change.

Nice attitude.  You are a credit to society.  I've never met any of the sick kids at the Shriner's Hospitals, or the helpless animals being helped by the ASPCA, that I donate money to every month from my paycheck.  But, that's because I choose not to live in ignorance.  Not caring if someone else's mental, or family life suffers just as long as you get your precious video game is a ridiculously callous and beyond selfish attitude to have.  Bravo.

If they dont like the work, they can quit. Anyone working on the video games I enjoy should be fully committed to doing whatever it takes to deliver me that 97 rated MC game.
