I'm in hurry....Was there a fast moving shovel in the trailer? Like, moving at cartoonishly fast speed? I'll check it out later.

From a marketing point of view, that was smart, and to the point
Nice message of family time gaming, dont see that often enough

We know Switch is selling well, so please don't go there |

4.8million worldwide sales in first half of 2018 up to June 30. ...that's good?

How is that bad or anything close to being bad? It is largely on pace with the PS4's second year in the market.
On top of that NPD numbers (from US) and Media Create numbers from Japan don't paint a picture of a console that is selling anywhere near levels that would be considered bad.

Shadow (forgot the numbers to his name, sorry) already analyzed Switch’s second year and it’s pretty respectable.
Unless you have comparisons of better second years besides PS2 and Wii?
This is more likely for holiday advertising since I saw a Christmas tree in the commercial.

Yes
Here are the PS4 shipments in the same quarters each year.
2014-5.7 million
2015-5.4 million
2016-5.8 million
2017-6.2 million
2018-5.7 million
If 5.4-6.2 million is considered great than 4.8 million is certainly good.

I check the store every week, and most of it (just like on PSN and XBS), is absolute garbage. I would be more excited if this 1,000 peices of software was a range of great Apps and Games, as oppsoed to a few great games, and 100's of worthless games that some unfortunate people will regret buying. That goes for all three platform holders, but more so Sony and Nintendo, because Microsoft is at least open to more software than just games. |
Tis the reality of Sturgeon's Law. 90% of every entertainment made at any given moment is crap. Only the 10% of that is good, some even truly great and destined to be remembered as classics. What we should be doing is creating systems that heavily curate the great stuff, and push it to the forefront as much as possible, leaving the rejects to the wayside.

I feel like this is the kind of post I would have made with no prior knowledge to console sales whatsoever. It's totally fine that you don't think 4.8 million is a lot, but it's a lot more than you think.
Switch and PS4 are tracking very closely, albeit PS4 is slightly ahead as of this year.
Edit: I wish I could find that thread that was Switch vs PS4 aligned, I posted in it a few days ago but it's hard to find

My NPD thread? In Jan-Sept for their 2nd year its 2.35m vs 2.25m in PS4 favor. Very close.
