Speaking of Switch outselling the GameCube...
By the end of Novmeber, the PS4 will outsell the Xbox One and PS3.
This will clear the path for PS4 to challenge Wii for the top 5 spot!.
Wii had a good run in the top 5 and I think it could be years before it is knocked down again.
In fact the next real challanger against the Wii's soon to be #6 slot will be none other than the PS5.
Once this happens, we can make bets for PS4 taking third all time.

Yep PS4 should end up at 3 or 4 all time, behind only PS2, DS and possibly Gameboy.

I would say Switch could be a potential challenger for Wii lifetime sales.

PS4 almost 3:1 the Xbox One.... is this the new norm?
it used to be closer to 2:1 but lately it seems like its often close to 3:1

To be expected. 2019 will be a bloodbath.

The PS4 remains the go-to console for the mass market and the Switch is now on the market as a viable alternative or secondary platform. No system selling "exclusive" software for the Xbox One has released since PUBG last year while Sea of Thieves didn't set the world on fire earlier this year. Forza, while great for fans of racing games, isn't going to sell many systems. Looking at options on the direct competition (Spiderman and God of War specifically), there's very little reason to pick an Xbox One ahead of a PlayStation 4, particularly outside of the United States.

I'd beg to differ on that. If Nintendo plays their cards right, then Switch will be the next "real" competitor to the Wii.

Then again, the Wii also could have surpassed PS1 had Nintendo played their cards right there, too. Sooo .... it may be a long shot

Japan once again holding the PS4 back.

Sometimes I think “Who’s still buying PS4? Everyone I know already has one.” Then I remember that I don’t know everyone.

So many different factors to consider but my gut tells me that the limit may be 65 million.  I know that seems ridiculous to some but I think Nintendo will throw us a curveball.

I believe the rumors that Nintendo is in fact making an upgraded unit AND I believe that Sony is working on one too from the public design specs.

I believe that Nintendo is deadset on making an new version that will not be forwards compatible with the Switch.  This is how they compete.  No more articles about games like RDR2 not coming to Switch.  The new version will be as powerful as the base PS4.

All of this, plus Nintendo's frontloaded history leads me to believe that it wont reach the heights of  Wii.

PS4 domination as usual in the Global, NA and mostly Europe. Switch also good, not very very far from PS4 thanks to Japan, and thanks to the fact it's an home console together with a portable, we can't forget about it.

What really amazes me is the level of dominace PS4 has towards X1(similar console and same release date), and the dominance in the Global towards Nintendo Switch, which is a new console, very young, it's a Home + Portable console, and very strong in Japan for the reasons everybody knows.

I think a price cut will never happen before Sept 2019 because of this dominance, as Sony want to be as profitable as possible.

65 million seems very low, it will be over half of that by the time it's been on the market for 2 years. It is also outpacing 3DS at nearly double the price and 3DS exceeded that number comfortably.
