I wanted to talk a bit about Starlink. It is now out for a few days and everyone had the chance to play a bit. We could now share our impressions.

I personally have the starter pack for Switch. It includes physical stuff, mainly I wanted the Arwing and the Fox figurine physical. But everything can be purchased and played purely digital.

My impressions so far:

  • The game is surprisingly fun for the most part, I played a lot more than I thought. Simply exploring and fighting works so well.
  • The Toy-to-life stuff doesn't get me, I tried it, but I prefer playing with the Pro controller and switching weapons and ships digital (the included toys in the starter pack are also unlocked digital).
  • The missions from the outposts are boring and repetitive, but as you get Electrum and mods easily in other ways I ignore them completely (you have to make one mission to win the putpost for your side, but that's it).
  • Never upgrade an outpost though the option. That costs Nova, while you simply can do the same by delivering organic material or metals. Use the Nova instead to increase your carrying capacity for organic material and metals, this costs a lot less nova then investing it in the individual outposts.
  • The Starfox content is substantial, the other versions miss out.

What do you think? Which version do you play.

I liked the game a lot, despite it getting kinda samey towards the end. I am actually surprised how much like a traditional open world Ubisoft-game it was. Loved the Star Fox content.

I played couple of hours on Switch, its solid game, and looks and works great on Switch in portable and docked mode, one of best looking multiplatform game on Switch.

Funny, I have just now played it again for a bit. I have the Switch starter pack and I really like the Arwing. It looks fantastic next to my amiibos. However, I prefer playing without the toy-to-life-stuff.

The first mission was great and got me hooked! Now I was exploring the first main planet for a while and it wasn't all that exciting anymore, but still cool and I will definitely like this game.

One somehow negative thing I noticed so far is the missing rumble during the cinematic cutscenes. I believe the cutscenes would be much better if rumble was implemented, and I also expect rumble to be a basic feature nowadays, honestly. I can't understand why they left it out when the rest of the game clearly has rumble smh.

You're already at the end?!

It's not a long game really, finished the story in 18 hours or so. Haven't fully explored all of the planets though because you need to buy more weapons to get all the collectibles

It definitely has Ubisoft signatured Open-World feel everyone mentions about their games but since I never play them, this mean it probably won't get stale on me. At least, it didn't for the first 3 planets (Kirite,Haven, Solvanus) I completed more or so.

Done the first 2 missions of the Star Fox side story and yup they definitely nailed the banter between characters. Also I don't know if they just felted like it but I think they went apeshit with Falco sarcasm. (Nice remix of Corneria SNES's theme too)

And to be honest, the Starlink crew is pretty decent as well. It's just sad that they're not themselves being more pro-active in the story than just the cutscenes only cuz technically you're pretty much left alone to do all the job.

Overall so far, it definitely lives up to what I hoped.

Yep, they are mostly nice. Mason is a little blank sheet and boring, as often with a character that is intended to represent the player. And Levi is annoying. I don't know what was the idea behind it. Yeah, let's add an annoying character to the cast, because people will LOVE it! But aside from these two, the cast works well.

18 hours is still a lot for someone with work. Anyways, now is weekend time, so I may play it a bit more. Or Dark Souls.

I'm still waiting for my amazon shipment. But I gotta say, with the inclusion of Fox, this has become one of my most anticipated titles of the year.

Earlier this day I played this game for 3-4 hours straight and did nothing but sidequests. I only stopped because the Switch battery went empty.
