Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch port of Xenoblade Chronicles X currently NOT in development

In an interview with Monolith Soft's executive director, various aspects of the Xenoblade series were discussed, primarily Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and its success on the Switch platform. Sadly, the interview ended with the confirmation that a Switch port of Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U is currently not in development, mainly due to budget constraints.

XCX has been a highly requested port for the Switch ever since Monolith Soft employees have come forward almost a year ago stating they would love to see the game make it to the Switch. While this is definitely still the case, and still a possibility, do not hold your breath for any sort of announcement in the near future.

Good. Switch is already oversaturated with ancient ports, more so than any system I can ever recall. New games please.

That seems like a gross exaggeration. If I recall, the first year or so of the 8th Gen consoles was cluttered with far more ports than the Switch has been receiving. I also wouldnt particularly call XCX ancient. It came out in 2014 and a lot of people missed out on it due to not bothering to buy a Wii U.

But Im sure you will be glad to know that Monolith Soft has just begun a new project, so you dont have to worry about not having new games to play.

Actually, April 29th 2015 in Japan

Anyways, this is sad because it's one of the only Wii U games that I think needed a huge sales boost (along with Tropical Freeze, which luckily has gotten one).

That sucks. I wanted to play it on the Switch. Still do.

When it comes to ports, anything multiple years old is pretty much ancient. And I dunno about that, even if we disregard the tsunami of ancient indies, there's MK8D, Pokken, Tropical Freeze, Skyrim, Bayo 1 + 2, Diablo 3, Dark Souls, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, NSMBUD, LA Noire, LEGO City, Monster Hunter Generations, Rayman Legends, Street Fighter II, RE Revelations 1 + 2...

Imagine if all the resources and manpower spent on that multitude of games had  instead been invested in creating fresh new content.

Heh...author has good taste in pairings. *fist bumps Twi*

I was curious what the thought process was behind the gacha system. I guess that makes sense...kinda...every playthrough will be different if you start from scratch. Still a pain in the ass if you're trying to collect everything though...at least my favorite characters were all story Blades.

About XCX...I suppose if they can't just copy paste it onto the Switch and actually need to put work into it, the investment might not be worth it. Kind of a shame, X wasn't really my jam but I can definitely see the appeal of that type of game.

Was really expecting this to get ported to the switch, I can't use my gamepad on the wii u anymore cause of the bloated battery.

I suppose in that regard I cant disagree with you, but considering Nintendo operates multiple teams, and several of those are multiplatform releases, I doubt too much time or resources were used up. Their lineup for next year is already pretty impressive

To me, disliking third party ports is just odd ... that's pretty much out of Nintendo's control, and a couple of those games (like Monster Hunter, or even better Rayman) don't really have a viable alternative for them.

Nintendo games I can at least understand, because while they eat up almost no resources, Nintendo probably does change their release schedule around them (example being that if there was no Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we'd probably already be getting a Mario Kart 9 by next year).
