Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why is the Switch still not getting big games from 3rd parties? October edition

Probably just the hardware difference. If a game puts more emphasis on graphics, that dev may be less inclined to put in the effort to get it running, either because they don’t need the port or it just won’t make a difference for their title. That’s be my best guess.

It got Starlink, and i've been enjoying that very much today

The switch is just a portable console and can’t run em it’s as simple as that. No  great  conspiracy anymore, those days are over. We’ll see a lot of original stuff from Japanese 3rd party’s (most probably rpg’s), maybe some western ports of older 3rd party games (cos  they can actually run on the switch) and with luck Nintendo’s 1st party output will improve (already looking pretty good for 2019) as they move away from the 3ds and focus totally on the switch. I’ll be happy with that personally.

What sort of big 3rd party titles are ya looking for? Unless it's Bethesda publishing it doesn't look like anyone wants to do the dirty work of getting their big X1/PS4 titles to run on the Switch. I think lower budget 3rd party exclusives (like Octopath) would make more sense.

Nah it won’t be a problem anymore with streaming coming.

AC, Resident Evil 7 are already available in japan for example.

I’m expecting Red Dead 2, The next Skyrim, Starfield, Cyberpunk and GTA6 will all be available on switch in the next years.

Ark is coming in November, that should push the Switch a bit graphically

ARM and Underpowered.

AAA games are built for X86. So not only do they have to downgrade, but they have to completely rewrite the game for ARM.

Switch is capable of running anything on PS4 and XBO with reduced fidelity, but the chances of turning a profit are slim. Had Nintendo went with X86, they would be getting a lot more titles. Unfortunately, at the time there were no good X86 options. Sony and Microsoft are set if they want to compete with Switch in the future, because Ryzen is incredibly scalable.

"The next Skyrim"

its just powerful enough and third parties don't want to bother with making a different inferior version.
