Forums - General Discussion - Reverse Climate Change?

Very difficult. The atmosperic changes with more Methane or carbon dioxide lead to the athmosphere keeping infrared radiation (heat radiation) from escaping in space, while sunlight comes through. So sunlight absorbed by the earth is converted in heat and this heat can escape slower than before. To reverse it you may try different things. First, you could reverse the effect of the athmosphere keeping heat radiation on earth. Best bet would to artificially remove carbon dioxide and methane from the athmosphere. Secondly we could reduce the solar input, meaning reflecting more sunlight before it even reaches earth. Both ways are very difficult.

The hardest part is making change on a global scale. It is already hard to get state to state energy efficient efforts, imagine nations.

We can certainly make some positive strides and I would hope they we could develop technologies in tandem that will keep this rock hospitable to humans. We'll pbviously have to expand into space as well. Our population is simply growing too rapidly.

Especially with how corporations hate clean energy because it'll cost them a fortune. Wouldn't surprise me if they were willing to even commit murder just to keep their agenda going.

You have the wrong view on that: After these companies emitted greenhouse gases and brought climate change upon us - they can now sell their new technology to reduce climate change. Everyone wins. Well, actually only corporate america wins.

Guess we haven't used enough condoms and/or killed enough terrorists.

So you're saying we shouldn't invest in these clean energy technologies because of corporate assholes?

Oh, I talked about athmospheric engineering. Clean energy won't reverse climate change, but stop making it worse. The grenhouse gases already released will keep on changing the climate for about the next hundred years. With clean energy, we don't make it worse, but we don't make it better.

Anyways, every company ever will become greedy and will attract corporate assholes. Even when they start out nice. See, Google had the motto 'Don't be evil'. They avoided evil stuff and even left china after they were asked to censor. They changed the motto to 'Do the right thing' and now they work with the military (project maven) and the chinese government (project dragonfly). Corporate assholes will take over.

But this doesn't mean you can't steer corporate assholes. Corporate assholes have a pretty simple artificial intelligence... err... I meant intelligence: they go after the most profit. So, if you as a consumer make technologies or methods that help the planet more profitable, the assholes will be all over it.

We can't no matter what we do. Earth is simply destined to be vapourized by our sun even if we do have a global solution to geoengineering ...

Trying to cut emissions at the expense of productivity is futile. The action probably won't make any ultimate difference the way earth becomes uninhabitable because sooner or later Earth will move out of the goldilocks zone as long as the sun keeps expanding ...

The only realistic alternative to move away from extracting energy in petrochemicals without heavy deindustrialization is by temporarily adopting nuclear fission. The Green's who lobbies the hardest against climate change have to make compromise to accept nuclear energy cause following Germany's quick route to decommissioning nuclear reactors means that their citizens and residents are getting less value for their money for the amount of energy they pay for ...

If you live in the west then the effects of climate change are unlikely to be felt in your life time. I wouldnt worry about it or waste my 'energy' trying to save energy.

When it comes to the environment, I think you should worry more about China and India as well as the corporations that enable them than the current US government you happen to disagree with lol

I know it's probably just a dream at this point, especially with idiotic decisions by, ahem, a certain Western superpower since 2016, but it's still a nice thought to have.

Are there ways, any at all, to reverse climate change? Would it help if we planted new forests, reduced our garbage output, used more renewable energy sources, invested further into water bottles and re-hydration stations, etc?

I try my hardest to help out, I'm even trying to use lights that are more energy efficient. What else can we do?

Nothing and just relax. Every winter are announced as exceptionnal, like summers.

If we have a too cold winter --> it is because of the climate change

If we have a too sweat winter --> it is because of the climate change

If we have a too cold summer --> it is because of the climate change

If we have a too warm summer --> it is because of the climate change

Believe me if you just stop to think about it you will have plenty of new freetime in your mind and less stress. We have no influence on the climate as individual citizens.

Yes I don't believe at all into global warming, like Trump.

Atmospheric Carbon is the primary regulator of Earth’s average temperature. Reforestation would allow more to be filtered out of the atmosphere, but emissions would still need to decrease to ensure a net loss of atmospheric carbon. Responsible leaders who accept the conclusions of peer-reviewed scientific papers as outlined in scientific literature will be necessary. The Left has a near-monopoly on the right people and the right ideas to do what needs to be done.
