That's one way to bring virtual console games to mobiles. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Seems such a simple thing to do.

Good I hate touch screen phone game controls

I have to say that the idea of buying an iPhone X only to turn it into a gameboy is pretty tempting.

Nintendo's "solution" won't be much better. The case buttons seem to press on predefined areas of the touchscreen beneath. That will be imprecise and unresponsive as hell.

There are much better pad solutions via Bluetooth for smartphones and emulators that can use the full screen (or the screen area of your choice) for the game graphics.

An educated guess. I tried similar solutions with button attachments on touchscreens and they were all bad.

And I know that I prefer emulated games to use the full screen (while keeping the correct aspect ratio) instead of only using a tiny fraction of the screen.

Pass. I rather have Nintendo make a Gameboy classic.

I can just imagine the annoyance of always having to put on/take off this Gameboy phone case every time you have to use your phone for messages and phone calls.

I would guess they did this to prevent other companies from doing it (though I’m pretty sure this has been done multiple times).

Either way, if I’m being optimistic, I would hope this means they’re going to actually release this as an official product, and finally start re-releasing some of their classic portable titles on smartphones. Just releasing all the Pokémon games from GB to GBA, for like $10 a pop each, would rake in billions for them overnight. It’s an untapped market, and I’m surprised Nintendo hasn’t capitalized on it yet.
