Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wall Street Journal Japan Reports A New Switch Model Will Release In The Second Half Of 2019

Do you guys think there will be any improvements?
... or is this revision just to remove that bug that allows people to hack/homebrew/pirate on their switches?

The revision that fixed the RCM hack is already out there. Source: https://www.resetera.com/threads/bootrom-patched-switches-appear-at-retail.54531/

They were very clear, they said based on they sources that new Switch version is coming next year, they dont know if this will be Pro or Mini/Pocket/Lite version, they even said that specs are still not finalized, only detail that they did mentioned is that Nintendo is looking at better less power screen thats not OLED.

Also WSJ before reported that Nintendo is planing/working on revision, but this is first time we have info when that revision could come.

Nintendo sources different screens for 3DS but adopts them “silently” without anyone being able to tell from the box. They could introduce new screens for the Switch without changing the consumer-facing product at all.

I can't see how there can be a release date for 2019 when Nintendo hasn't even finalised specs, let alone created a working prototype. At best it's an “aspiration” to release in 2019.

We here talking about difrent version of Switch where one of the things that will most likely be different among other things is screen, we dont talking only about screen difference.

They mentioned like summer of 2019. like possible release period for this revision, we dont talk about brand new platform or brand new console, just about different revision or type of existing device thats already out. So its not like they need years for something like that, they can finalise specs even in December or even in January/February and release it on revision on summer, there is reason why Nintendo announce this types of revisions and difrent version of existing hardware only month-two before launch.

I hope they go with a Lite model that fixes the, in my opinion, two biggest problems with the current Switch: battery life and internal Storage.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

My heart wants a pro model but my brain tells me that this is definitely a mini model. Next year should be huge in sales though

hoping here for improved battery life and joy cons with a better d-pad. Wish i had waited a little more to buy mine, but oh well.

Shocker. Probably gonna have all those things the first version couldn't possible have had.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If Animal Crossing multiplayer can be more enjoyed with two switches (instead of split screen) in terms of features and functionality, then I am interested in getting a second switch for my wife. If they release a cheaper and smaller one, that rises to a strong leaning towards that purchase.

Honestly, I think its too soon.I mean, at least in my view, it dosent make sense the reasoning behind it, which it is to keep Switch sales momentum going. If that were the case, all Nintendo had to do is give the system a price cut, and leave the revision for later, which I assume would have an 1080p screen and better performance exclusively to get the resolutions on undocked mode to 1080p and keep the framerate steady and acceptable.Maybe to also improve overall performance on docked mode too.Not to mention any other benefits they could also fit in there, such as bigger storage size.

I dont know. For me, a revision for 2020 makes far more sense. It should be noted that this is a report, and thus a "rumor", so always take these news with a grain of salt.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

The story is incredibly vague: doesn't even say whether the model will be uprange or downrange of the original. Until there's something a lot more concrete I'd count this as an unsubstantiated rumour.

But this IS the definition of being vague, even if they dont know the details...
