Could it become some sort of glorified Minecraft?

This is what I was hoping they would do with it. Or at least that they would include a mode like that. I feel that’s where the game could become huge.

In what sense is this like Minecraft? Or how could it become a glorified Minecraft?

Minecraft is a sort of virtual lego. I thought that Dreams would be some sort of modern generation virtual lego, where the player would have glorified 3D high quality assets as easy to use building blocks to build a world for others to see and interact with. I now know that it's not the case and I guess pitzy272 was hoping that it was the case or at least that they can make it happen in the future.

But it's nothing like Minecraft. If you're going to say it's like Minecraft because the assets 'could' be seen as blocks, then I don't really know what to say. LOL.

I'm not saying anything, actually I went into this thread to find out more about Dreams. I only have questions, I've got no affirmations.

I said:

And pitzy272 said:

So, nobody's saying it's Minecraft, we're just wondering and hoping about.

Maybe we are at cross purposes then because this is where the conversation started for me:

Minecraft is a sort of virtual lego. I thought that Dreams would be some sort of modern generation virtual lego, where the player would have glorified 3D high quality assets as easy to use building blocks to build a world for others to see and interact with. I now know that it's not the case and I guess pitzy272 was hoping that it was the case or at least that they can make it happen in the future.

The comparison to minecraft seems fair to me. Sure, it's not the same, but there are similarities:

- There is a sort of story mode in both. But dreams is much more focused in its narritive.

- There is a creative mode in both where the player has unlimited access to all resources. Its just that the resources in Minecraft are squared blocks and some very basic functions. In dreams the resources are virtually unlimited: 3d sculptures, 2d paintings, characters and their logic, music, animations, etc.

- In both games you can check out the things / levels other players have built.

So my impression of dreams is that you very much have unlimited access to high quality 3D assets as easy to use building blocks. Just search for "tree", pick the one you like and put in in your level as many times as you like to make a forest.

Minecraft seems in a way less aproachable than dreams, since minecraft has a lot of abstract, hardly explained rules. Dreams has hours of fun tutorials and everything is straight forward.

Also, you can spend hours in creative mode in Minecraft to build one sphere. In dreams it would take you one second.

Also, in Minecraft you have a fixed, very limited number of assets. In dreams you can make your own assets that are potentially vastly different from anything else in the game.

Minecraft works on a raster with blocks. In dreams you can obviously make a squared block. But did you know that there is a raster-function in dreams? With it free placement of 3d assets becomes restricted to that raster and everything fits together neatly.

That raster function is also very advanved. It works with 3d objects of varying sizes and forms as well, not just with cubes.

So no worries. As far as I can tell, everything is already in the game.

Exactly, like I said, I don't have affirmations, I've got questions. My first question was:

Could it become some sort of glorified Minecraft?
