Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4: Dreams Game Informer Coverage This Month

I'm so fricking hyped for this. Anybody else just blown away (again) by those ladder- and water physics? Like, that ain't no pre-built stuff, that's stuff that the devs themself wasn't sure would be possible, but then they went and used the game's own tools; the same tools as the players will have, to make it.

I can single handedly say that I haven't been this hyped for a game in my whole life; and a lot of the reason for that is because of the things I'm not expecting to see in Dreams, the new stuff that makes you go "How in the hell did he make this?".

Day one, easily. Funny thing is, I wasn't even all that hyped about Dreams until I saw more of it at PSX last year. Feels like anyone who actually are able to grasp what Dreams is and the possibilites it offers, are instantly hyped for it.

Hm. It's touched on in the video....I'm wondering about the accessibility of this game, and whether or not it's complexity will put people off?

You're not alone. This is my most anticipated game, ahead of RDR2.

People need to start looking more closely at what we're watching. Just watch that scene with water a few times. There's NO water physics in Dreams and that water is only an image drawn and animated to appear as if it's water. Now watch those pallets move and you'll see something remarkable.

Yeah, the details and what is possible to be created is absolutely fascinating. But some of us are more interested in the gameplay mechanics. So the creation is awesome but I want to see more gameplay with good gameplay mechanics being shown. More variety  and a beta, are definitely wants going to help push this game to a more mass market.

That pallet IS gameplay mechanics though. It's a floating platform (that isn't actually floating because the water doesn't exist) ... This is clearly clever use of the logic system and shows how deep you can go if you want. The ladder is also a use of that logic.

Just take what others have done and montage them into something you'd like to play. You don't have to do a single bit of logic, character creation or asset creation. At that level it's similar to Lego.

So I was watching the game informer show where they featured Dreams, and they mentioned the campaign is now aiming at a length of 2-3 hours. Things must’ve changed; before they said around 6h. I had been hoping they were aiming to make it longer, not shorter.

No, it's always been said to be around that time. No one is buying Dreams for the campaign though. That's why every single stream from MM and every single article and every single site with hands on previews, concentrate on what you buy Dreams for: To create.

One of the most innovative games ever. Let's see when it appears.

I’m quite sure they said 5-6h at one point. I remember it being talked about in a thread here. Either way, the main thing I’ve always done in LBP has been the campaign, and there being only a 2-3h campaign means I may not buy dreams, unfortunately. And I think this is going to markedly reduce its mainstream appeal, which sucks considering the game has such potential. Sony/MM have a tough one on their hands, here. Without a campaign and without an appealing protagonist to advertise, I’m more worried about this game’s success than ever. I really freakin hope MM don’t end up getting closed after the game releases. Hopefully it catches on!!

I feel the campaign and its length are seen in the wrong light. Maybe the story of Art (the musician) and D-Bug (the robot) and Francis and Foxy (pink Bear and Fox) is two too three hours long.

1) I tend to take longer than such estimates. And I am sure it is the same for many other people aswell.

2) What is with that text adventure? That might take 30 Minutes. There might be more parts of it, when the game comes out.
What is with that 2D-platformer where you can change from walking humanoid character to glittering ball of light? How long will that take?
What is with the top-down space shooter? How many levels will that have when the game comes out? Looked fun to me.
What is with that futuristic looking racer we saw in the trailers? What is with that space sim? Or the very different space shooter where you manouver in 3D? The guy who created that level said he wants to make a much bigger experience out of this. Whats that isometric co-op game in this world of white stone and water? And the game in ego-perspective they showed for a hot minute? Might be 10 Minutes long. Might be an hour. And the horror game with the character that looks like a little girl or something? We know that has multiple levels already. I might be able to play that hammer mini game for 2 hours straight with my friends.

If we just focus on the story of art than it might be just 2 too 3 hours long for some people.
But there will be, even when the beta just starts, so many more quality Media Molecule games to play. And videos to watch. And drawings to look at. And music to listen to. At least that is what I am convinced of.

When a story is not longer, than don't draw it out. Brevity is the soul of wit. A like a game that does not waste my time. But when this game comes out I strongly believe that I will play days and even weeks of what Media Molecule created for all of us.
