Forums - Sony Discussion - My unfortunate mission to get Xenogears on my Vita. An OTB story.

That wasn't the point. I wanted it by legal means. It would have been terribly easy to get it that way, but it was just an exploration of the difficulties regarding region locked content.

If  you own a PS1 or Vita, and the Game Xenogears, then yes its legal, if you make your own copy of your game and use that.
Just play it on a emulator.

Sort of defeats the purpose of what I was trying to achieve. I wanted it on my Vita.

I'm sorry to say that, but most of your 13 steps were pointless.

The PS3 is regionfree, so all you had to do was to open an US account (additonal to your normal account, no reformatting necessary) and buy it with this new user account. PSN US credit is also available at amazon.com, no need to go to dubious sellers.

Then it is already playable on your PS3.

To also play it on the Vita, you had to log off you EU account and log into the US account (no reformatting the memory card necessary). Then your EU games are temporary locked, but get unlocked after switching accounts again.

This did not work, as you described. Amazon added costs to it, which I thought was nonsense to buy a code..

Defeating the purpose of what I wanted. The PS3 was only there to get it on my Vita.

This also did not work as described. The only other way this could be done was by switching memory cards around, which I was not willing to do as it meant buying another expensive memory card. Either way, it does not work. If you could show me a step by step of doing it your way. Cause every other source I checked suggested this reformat method.

Right.  You're not pirating a game.  And emulation itself is not illegal.  You're perfectly within your rights to dump your game to the PC and emulate it.

That being said, I believe Xenogears still has issues being emulated.  Or it did.  And it also doesn't really scratch that handheld xenogears itch unless you get a handheld gaming PC of some kind.

So uhm, I'm confused. Why did you reformat your PS3? You can have multiple accounts on one PS3 - I have my US and EU accounts on one machine.

But, that's kind of an aside - as you say Xenogears is directly downloadable to Vita. You didn't need to download it to a PS3 (or PC), you just need to log into a US account on Vita and click download.

It is a chore, I'll fully admit. Come to the Vita thread next time and ask, I'm sure someone would've been able to give you advice that would've saved a great number of these steps. Or just google beforehand, there's plenty of info out there telling you that you can't use euro credit on us dollar american accounts.

The reformatting of the PS3 wasn't that bad, since I don't care much for the PS3 anymore. I could not find another way, not easily anyway. I went in with the idea that was suggested to me, hence this method. I half-way resorted to just doing it directly on the Vita, which I was hoping not to do in the first place.

To repeat myself, I went in with a mindset of looking at ease of use. It was a learning experience.

The minds behind Xenogears have left. Short of a collab between S-E and Monolithsoft (and also collaboration from half the mind of Xenogears Soraya Saga) a true sequel will never be made. Odds are very unlikely.

Yeah, that ship has sailed.

Indeed. Xenoblade is all that is left of that.
