Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm wondering is there something wrong with millenials? I hear younger generation trash it on PS4

Millennials are criticized for many things. The main criticism is that they're soft and lazy.

The reason why people think Millenials are bad, is because we all grew up with the internet. We also had to grow up with the horrible repercussions of smaller government. Health care is insanely expensive because the government refuses to step in and control prices. Student loan debt is out of control, because regulators refused to shut down for-profit schools. As a result, the generations that came before us see us as lazy, and broke.

But all the stuff that makes us Millenials seem bad, (or actually be bad), is effecting Gen Z just the same. So they should have no reason to look down on any of us.

Most people who hate millenials don't want to take responsibility for their generation raising them, or are millenials and just don't know it.

We didn't all grow up with internet though, it's the thing that opposes us to Gen Z. Millennial start in 1980, we're the last generation who "played outside" when we were kids, while Gen Z plays on computers and their parents iPad when they're 3 years old.

Millenials learned life without internet, and then grew up at the same time as internet, which makes us IMO more logical about it than other generations (we know how to use it, but we also know that life was possible without it). Gen Z kids are the one who would kill themselves if they had to live without internet for more than a day.

You're right about everything else though. The previous generations destroyed the economy (and the environment  society, etc...) and think that Gen Y is bad because we can't succeed as easily as them. Gen Y has to repair a lot of damage done by baby boomers and Gen X.

But I disagree about OP though. Everyone trashes Gen Z, more than Gen Y. Gen Z kids are the Tide pod challenge and Fortnite dances generation, usually considered the dumbest generation ever, intellectually impaired due to too much exposure to internet and social networks at a young age. My little sister, who was born in 1996 and is a "late millennial", grew up with millennials but then saw a lot of Gen Z kids when she was in high school (being a elementary/middle/high school together). She always told our family that she was impressed by how dumb and disconnected from reality the kids from Gen Z were. So really, don't mind too much what Gen Z kids say about millennials. I bet they don't even know what that means anyway.

The bolded hit the nail on the head.

Social media sites naturally use psychological tricks to sink themselves deep into our brains, reprogramming them to consume more and more social media. Memes are just rapid fire jokes, that keep coming. Ever find yourself browsing youtube, or facebook for an hour? Yeah, that's the reprogramming working. I'm not sure if the younger generation is fully aware of what social media is doing to them. Then we have the downfall of news, and credibility. The propagandists call legitimate news "fake news", while buying up legitimate news outlets, and corrupting them for political gain. So now, nobody knows what a credible source is, or how to do any sort of research on a topic. It is how you get legions of people thinking that evolution is a lie, or that vaccines cause autism.

They also said drake trashes tupac and snoop dogg and all the old school rappers

Eh. Drake is better than them when it comes to putting up numbers. Peronally i think they Tupac and Snoop are more talented since they write there songs but i feel like Drake is better when it comes to delivery.

Generation social media, I think the youngest millennial would be 18 now going on 19.

Google says 22.

hmmm I'm seeing a whole lot of people unable to take responsibility for their wrong doing and hardcore playing the victim card... Maybe that's why they hate Millenial's so much?.

Usually millenials are born between 80 and 00, but it's true that people born in 99 are a lot closer to Gen Z than to the rest of Gen Y (officially born as Gen Y, but grew up in the same conditions as Gen Z).

From my experience, Millennials were raised as the 'self esteem' generation - at least in the states. More influential than participation trophies and the like was the message from all of my elders and the media that you can be and do anything you want if you just believe. The reality of the Great Recession, a shrinking middle class, and modern life in general could be a rude awakening to many. I turned out okay and chasing those dreams did make for some good memories along the way, but I'd probably be much further along in my career and standard of living if I had been given more realistic advice growing up like kids are probably getting today. As far as generational images are concerned, though, Faelco has the right idea.

Isn't every generation trash-talking about whatever comes before and after them? It's what people do. Always trying to make themselves look better than the rest and stuff. It's stupid. But I can understand when it comes from kids. They don't know better. I was the same when I was young.

That said, I'm proud to be a millennial and I am happy to have experienced the 90s first hand! That decade was totally awesome and I feel sorry for anybody who wasn't there. =P

Edit: Also, who the fuck is drake?
