How does this make sense? How can Nintendo allow this exploit to exist? How can people claim Nintendo is anti-consumer when their practices allow for less than $5 to cover an entire year's subscription? It's almost like the people making anti-Nintendo threads just hate Nintendo and aren't coming from a pro-consumer standpoint like they pretend to be. It's almost like there is an unmistakable bias in their threads and posts that makes it difficult to take what they write seriously.

Netflix does it and it seems to work pretty well. 

And people just looooooove to bitch and whine about change. That's really how it ends up.

AS far as I can tell it's perfect. All of us get theNES games, all of us can play online. No restrictions, just make sure you trust the 'parent' of the family plan, because they can boot you and - if they don't give you full autonomy - control your purchases and access your payment info. 

I am the parent of the 7 others on my account, and I don't even know how to do that (and I gave everyone autonomy) so I might be wrong, but that's what I read on a fairly reliable reddit post that had everything else accurate so far. 

Oh wow! It seems like this is the only option if you know and trust people who have Switch. And yeah. What super said. Seems like 90% of the people dont know this yet.

What if you get an account for one person ($20) and then months later you want to add a second person. How does that work?

Ok, so you can actually really do 8 consoles with the family account. This will be exploited really badly.

From the FAQ: https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/faq/

"Can I change from an Individual Membership to a Family Membership?" - "You can purchase a Family Membership and set it for automatic renewal even if you have an active Individual Membership. This will turn off automatic renewal for your Individual Membership. However, your subscription terms won't be combined; your Individual Membership will remain active until the end of its term."

So if you buy a 12-months solo membership and two months later you buy a 12-months family membership, you seem to waste 10 months of the solo membership.

And if you plan to play with two persons together on the same Switch online (f.e. you and a local guest want to play vs. 6 other online people a round of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), you'll need two individual subs or the family sub.

On PS4 and Xbox One only one subscription is needed if you and your guest want to play (on the same console) against others online, your sub expands to the other local players.

Thanks for the info! 

I still don't plan on getting the subscription but if my daughter asks, I will get it for her. At the same time, I might want it for myself if I ever decide to try Smash online. I've owned Brawl, Melee, and 4 but I've never played a single online match.
