Forums - Sony Discussion - Playstation Classic Announced, releasing in December 3rd with 20 games pre-loaded and cost $99

Ehh, this is from the era of games that hold up the worst today. The ugly polygons burn my eyes. This is a hard pass for me.

Sony is just on a roll this week for me. Why can't PS4 play these? I would have paid $999.99 in games for PS1 if they just fraking let me play them on PS4. I will not spend $99.99 on this pointless device. If I wanted an extra device hooked up, I could bring out my, PS1, PS2, or PS3.

On top of that, everyone was telling me B/C is a waste of time, and Sony should focus on Exclusives. Well they couldn't have wasted more time and resources with this. Getting PS1 games running on PS Now or PS4 would have been a simpler task, and opened the games up to 80+ million people.

I just don't get Sony right now?!?!?

Had they come out and been like surprise, FW6.0 now allows you to play PS1 games on PS4, I would have been jumping on here to cheer the news. I would have turned off the Xbox One X, fired up the PS4 Pro, and started dropping some $$$ on some PS1 classics.

Nonsense. You can already play all those PS1 classics on your PS3, Vita or PSP. If that was a big deal to you, you'd already have all of those PS1 classics. You're mad that Sony isn't putting the time and effort into making the PS4 compatible with PS1 classic games you already own, many of which, if  you've had PS+ for a while, have been given to you for free or for less than $1 with PS+. I have a few dozen PS1 classics and I don't think I've paid more than $15 for all of them.

And... source that it would be easier to get PS1 games running on PS Now or PS4 over this little device?

You don't get Sony right now because you aren't their target demographic. You never have been and you never will be. If Sony started catering to people like you, they'd be bankrupt before you know it.

I wouldn't consider a "mini" console expensive when it's cheaper than 2 modern controllers, 2 years of online play or one and a half full price game.

Its just a physical emulator with some roms. Probably 10 bucks to manufacture at the most.

It's not the hardware that determines the price of those Retro consoles, but the licences. The more modern these games are, the more expensive the licenses are, with outliners like FFVII costing probably quite a bit more than the other game licenses in there.

On Topic: Won't buy it, those low count polygons look very hideous today (unless there's FFVIII... maybe) and gameplay wasn't anything special, except maybe specially bad (early 3D platformers, anyone?)

Not interested myself, but maybe will be easier to let my son play on it than on my precious consoles =p

Never did get to play Jumping Flash

Bought a Playstation 1 with Hogs of War and some other games for 90€ a few months ago. This was completely worth it because Hogs of War alone is already 50€+ at amazon.de. So basically I got a Playstation 1 with 2-3 other games for only 40€.

This announcement is still amazing though, if they do it right and add a few things here and there I would seriously consider to buy this again.

Wonder what other games we can expect considering it doesn't come with the Dual Shock-version of the controller

I'll tell you what isn't there, APE ESCAPE...probably. Huge miss if it isn't there

OT: I don't care for it, at all. Most of these games haven't aged as well as the NES or SNES classics.

This is cool and all but as a kid i only really played and like crash bandicoot trilogy, spyro trilogy, crash team racing and mgs1 on the ps1. I actually own all of those ps1 classics on my ps3 and i own the crash trilogy remaster on the ps4 and soon the spyro trilogy remaster on the ps4. So there's very little point me buying this. I still have my ps1 hidden somewhere so if i want to jizz all over that beautiful grey box I'll find it and do so. No need to spend $100.

Edit: oh and hogs of war but i also own that on ps3. I'll save my 100 and buy 3 actual new block buster games on sale in December. Still curious to see how this sells.

How did you get that on PS3? In Germany it's not available in the Store. :(

The Nes and Snes games age like wine. PSX and Saturn 3D games age like milk. But the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and Dreamcast mini I'm in.
