As if retro consoles weren't a thing before NES Classic  -___-

You're not lying there...but they deadass called it PSOne Classic.

While retro consoles ain't something new, the NES Classic was the first one to be truly and widely successful. There's a reason why Nintendo didn't produce more at first -  they produced more NES Classic than any other retro console before it did and yet it wasn't nearly enough to satisfy demand.

And yeah, dat Name, just copy-paste.

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Depending on what the other 15 titles are, I may pick this up.

The more I think about it, the more I see that the game list is going to make or break the success of this thing. The biggest thing that made the NES classic successful is they made sure that all the best NES games were on it (except for big non-gaming IP like Ninja Turtles). They also made sure the list was fairly diverse. For example they put on Final Fantasy 1 even though it wasn't nearly as big as the Mario/Zelda type games. The SNES classic was pretty good about this too, although not perfect. (They did leave off Chrono Trigger.)

I've seen plenty of Sega game type consoles over the years and sometimes the lists are good and sometimes they aren't. I think Sony needs to make sure they get the big Konami games like Symphony of the Night and Metal Gear Solid. Just have to wait and see what the list is like.

Holy thats huge.Sony taking all the right cues from Nintendo.

This has, personally, less appeal to me than the NES or Super Nintendo Classic, since its the only PS system that I never owned.Having said that, if the list of games is going to be as good as I think it will be, this will become a hot item this holiday season.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

The advantage that Nintendo has over Sony on this matter is that, of the both minis they have relased, they owned about 60% or 70% of the games. Not only that made the product that much cheaper to make, for Nintendo themselves), but it also garanteed that the mini would have a stellar lineup.

In that sense, Sony does have more of an uphill battle, but I do have faith that they will manage to have a very good number of unmissible titles on the PS 1 Classic.

Interesting!

Hopefully this will have an amazing list of games. If it does, I may get it. Loved the system back then and it’s home to a couple of my favorites. Looks kind of big though, the Nintendo ones are tiny, but maybe I just need to see it in real-life.

Also, while it does come off a bit as a copy bevause of the timing, in this case I’d rather say Sony’s inspired by Nintendo’s success with these things instead.

Imagine if the N64 classic comes out this year LOL. It would be the return of the late 90's console war.

It would be a dream!!! Also interesting battle as N64 games have clearly aged better so it might have had a relatively better lasting impact. Of course, the PS1 was a revolution and I see it selling like hot cakes in Europe

I wonder which SoC runs the system... a castrated Vita chip, damned to only play PS1 classics although it could also handle PSP and Vita games?

Without knowing the full list of games, I can't really comment on if I'm going to get it.

That said, I'll probably get bought one as a gift at Christmas anyway so...
