Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can NSMBUD sell 10 million?

Launch as F2P, add microtransactions, and it will have more players.

It most likely will, as much as it may bother me.

Is my favorite New Super Mario game, one of the best 2D Mario games even, I replayed it a lot on my Wii U but I really, really wanted a new game instead, now I'll have to wait more for a new one.

I disagree. Anyway its fine if people like it.

Hopefully Nintendo will be nice and sell it for like 30-40 bucks.

Well you can disagree, but fact is that is very good game in any case and actually great fit for Switch because 2-4 co-op local multiplayer game with one or two pair of Joy Cons.

You need to be realistic, every Wii U port for Switch had price point like it did on Wii U, even in case of DKTF where game was $50 on Wii U we had $60 price point on Switch, with all that on mind NSMBU+Luigi pack will certainly be $60 on Switch, every other price point would be huge surprise. And ofcourse it will sell great with that price point.

You only pay for NSMBU. They said in the Direct that NSLU comes free of charge.

Yes, you will pay NSMBU $60 and NSLU is a free, but that comes same at end. Alone NSMBU had $60 launch price on Wii U.

Its ridiculous. Rayman Legends on Switch was like 40 bucks. That's also a way better game.

I can't stop laughing.

Look in the mirror...

No.
The NSMB series is like the FIFA of 2D Mario platformers and people have woken up to that.
A real 2D Super Mario Brothers will still sell gorillions, but Nintendo needs to make one that is actually ambitious, pretty to look at, and creative before it happens again.

How is it like Fifa exactly? That's an annual series while NSMB is one per system. Even if that were true, what makes you think people have just now woken up to that? And even if that's true, why would that mean NSMB sales falter when Fifa sells uber well?

I still think that's a stupid name.
What do you mean, it's totally a new game for Wii U!

Here are some MK8D predictions from last year for the lolz: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=227319&page=1

You are wrong about the new content not being as substantial as in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, because the inclusion of New Super Luigi U will make this Deluxe version be perceived as a doublepack. This is a big IP and Switch is so popular that not even the lack of a d-pad on the Joy-Cons will be able to prevent NSMBU Deluxe from selling 10m+ copies.

Might as well go tbone51 and put the question in the room if NSMBU Deluxe can outsell Super Mario Odyssey. Yes, I don't think that's likely, but where is tbone51 anyway?

Reading my Mario Kart 8 Deluxe prediction makes me hate Nintendo so much. They are quick to put out new Splatoon and new Super Smash Bros., but the IPs I like (Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros.) aren't likely to see a new installment anytime soon. Banking on the business rationale that online multiplayer will be a top priority with the move to a paid subscription service was also a big mistake on my part.
New Super Luigi U isn't new content, that would be Toadette who definitely doesn't hold as much weight as MK8D's battle mode. Otherwise yeah the game has a wealth of content. Dunno about beating Odyssey though, I think it would take a brand new 2D Mario to accomplish that feat.

Nobody is being punished, Switch has gotten plenty of non-Wii U 1st/2nd party content.

1 2 Switch, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario+Rabbids, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Kirby Star Allies, Nintendo Labo, Mario Tennis Aces, Octopath Traveler, Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, Smash Bros Ultimate.

They have averaged a non-Wii U 1st/2nd party title every ~1.5 months.

Nevertheless, the Switch ownership experience is still better for people that did not own a Wii U.

Possibly, but I'm not sure framing things this way is at all beneficial. I doubt the (eight?) Wii U ports that Nintendo has published really took much of their resources from other, original titles. Folks who didn't buy a Wii U get to experience some games for the first time, just like people who didn't own System X get to experience remakes for the first time, but as long as the re-releases aren't at the expense of new games I at least find it hard to argue this somehow detracts from my experience. Worst case scenario, folks who bought the Wii U got a chance to play these things years ahead of everyone else, which is a fair exchange for having to endure that system.

On a personal level, I have a Wii U, and would like them to port a few more titles over. I really, really didn't like that hardware. It didn't help that my system crapped out, and has to be unplugged every time I turn it off, or else it won't boot. Or that the hard drive set up for that thing was such a mess...Ugh.

That would make sense if NSMBU is a bad game, but actually it's very good game and best NSMB game.

Is that official? Was it crowned the best by the industry?

It was as crowned by "the industry" as anything else has been! So it's as official as Rayman Legends somehow being a better game. ^_^

I wouldnt call way better game, also NSMBUD comes with Luigi DLC that was selling seperate so game has tons of content (164 courses) but in any case NSMBU on Switch alone will destroy in sales Rayman Legends probably even if count all version of game and despite game will be $60 on Switch. :)

Simple not just that Mario is much stronger IP but NSMBU game has much wider appealing than Rayman Legends.

I have zero interest in the game and honestly hope it under-performs with like 3M lifetime. Realistically, I know that won't happen but I want Nintendo to transition away from these lazy ports. I wasn't crazy about this game on the Wii U and couldn't be less excited about a game being brought over.

Give me a Deluxe (fixed) Wonderful 101 and Xenoblade Chronicles X and then we're talking.
