Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can NSMBUD sell 10 million?

I'm not sure it will be able to go that far.

This is one of the Wii U games that wasn't a hot title or even a treasured one. Unlike MK8 or Mario Maker, for example.
Because of that i really don't see how it could sell that well. Specially if 2019 has a better (more system sellers and exclusives) line-up than 2018.

I depends how Nintendo will handle this game. When you can buy it in a bundle in a long therm then I think it will sell over 10 million.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the single hottest Switch game atm yet it hasn't been bundled iirc, so I think ports don't qualify for bundles. This isn't stopping MK8D from huge sales so should be the same for NSMBUD, though yeah a bundle would certainly help.

I hate NSMB and really want it to flop so that they might make one with some actual creativity again, but I don't think it will. I can see it selling around 10m, not much more though. Switch is drowning in platformers

There's realistically no way it can flop financially with it just being a port. Even just a million sales would give them good profits. Even so, I'm sure Nintendo is aware that fans want more from 2D Mario. More effort means they need more time, so NSMBUD is to tide people over til then... hopefully!

I'd say it can, but that would depend on when is Mario Maker coming. That game might cut NSMBUD's legs somewhat.

I think the games are different enough to not step on each other, the biggest difference being NSMBUD's multiplayer.

What's your basis for this claim, vocal minority forum goers? Whatever the reason, it wont outweigh the fact that NSMBU is the second highest selling Wii U game.

I don't want this game to exist. Nintendo should release NSMB 3 instead AND Mario Maker should be a mode in NSMB3 rather than it's own release/franchise

I base that on everything i have heard about the game since announced to this day.

I too consider it the best of the 3 NSMB games i played, but i have never seen being praised the same way MK8 was praised. Or Mario Maker. Even Mario 3D World seems to be remembered more fondly than NSMB U.

Not to mention that it was sold as a bundle for, roughly, 2x the time MK8 was bundled?

NSMBU+Luigi is my second favorite 2-D Mario game. Excellent level design.

It's coming out at the time when a lot of new Switch owners will be looking for a new game after purchasing the system over the holidays. And ports on the Switch have tended to outsell their Wii U counterparts. So, yeah. I definitely see this passing 10 million.

Glad to see another fan! I was pleasantly surprised by New Super Mario Bros. U when it launched. I was suffering a little fatigue, but it really impressed me with its level designs and general overworld. It definitely channels Super Mario World.

This is slightly off-topic, but I can't believe Nintendo did not add online multiplayer to this version. Come on! Aren't you supposed to try to entice people to use your online service?

I *might* reach 10 million with digital and if bundles come up. To be fair though, Switch owner do have a pretty steady line-up of games so this one might get overlooked.

So yes, vocal minority forum goers. I'll definitely be sure to bump this thread after January hehe.

I know right!? Especially sad considering they added online to the NES Mario games.

I don't agree with your last sentence as you could say that about any game, though it's especially silly to say about one of Nintendo's biggest series. It's very similar to the once popular fallacy "people are only buying MK8D because there's nothing else."

Hey Signalstar. Do you own a Switch now?

No.
The NSMB series is like the FIFA of 2D Mario platformers and people have woken up to that.
A real 2D Super Mario Brothers will still sell gorillions, but Nintendo needs to make one that is actually ambitious, pretty to look at, and creative before it happens again.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Should've left off the 'U' from the name I think.
