Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Online Cloud Saves are Deleted after a Grace Period if Subscription is not Renewed

Also the grace period by Sony is kinda bullshit. It should be at least a year

This is a joke. Worst online service ever. What's the point of cloud saves if Nintendo are going to just delete them

Sony deletes them too...but granted, they do allow local backups and so did Nintendo with Wii U. I don't get why they're acting all incompetent all of a sudden.

They delete them after 6 months. Still I agree it's shitty. Grace period should be at least a year IMO

This means that if you forgot to renew your subscription, all your shit is lost. It's nonsense. Heck if your just waiting for payday to come and want to renew then it means everything you have is gone if the sub ends.

Yeah, Nintendo has a grace period too. We just don't know how long that will be. In my earlier post we find that on their webiste they state:

We are unable to guarantee that cloud save data will be retained after an extended period of time from when your membership is ended. However, you can continue to use the save data that is saved to your system memory.

This thread is kinda misleading and should be modified with the correct information. We don't know how long it will be but it will be at least "extended". Nintendo should be more transparent on that front. They really don't have to even provide a long grace period. You're using their storage space on their dime while others are paying for it. I think 6 months or even 1 month it's more than fair, Sony or Nintendo. If you're not paying, they have the right to not even service you. Just like real life bills.

Let's be honest, they are the least pro consumer company of the three, lost everything on my wii u when that broke down, probably why I do not buy their stuff anymore. Lets's not get on their outrageous prices either, too much like Apple in that respect.

Ok, so this isn't as bad as the OP desired to mislead.

Hopefully this potentially is, at least on par with Sony;s 6 months (though yes that length is still an issue but at least that's actually free to use).

Nonetheless, there are already people here doing the exact same thing as I predicted they would in this circumstance. We're already at what I believed to be the end of the slippery slope. I feel like this some sort of bizarre fever dream
Today feels like some sort of weird fever dream.

EDIT: Saying "OP desired to mislead" was a bit too unwarranted and and unfair. Probably just forgot to link the source, and it may have been a developing story.

*shrugs*

I'd just make sure to retrieve my saves before my sub expires.

I guess it's because they don't have their own cloud service? Haven't heard anything ever about this happening on Xbox.

That's not true.

When I've taken a break from PS Plus, my cloud saves have been right where I left them when I re-sub. Iirc your saves are stored for 6 months.

Yeah then the OP should check his info. Because if there is a grace period then it's a lot more reasonable.

"We are unable to guarantee that cloud save data will be retained after an extended period of time from when your membership is ended."

Question is how long is this extended period?

Am I one of the people you mention?

Let's be honest, depending on how long the period between the end of the subscription and the deletion of stored data (Nintendo should really clarify this) this is the worst cloud-safe service out of the 3 consoles.
But that's it, I do not see why I should be outraged.
No one was tricked or taken something away.
