Forums - Sony Discussion - Finally got around to beating Horizon

I bought it when it launched and put 50 or so hours into it, got most of the way through the game but could not finish. To my surprise my son had bought the digital complete edition, so when I started using the PS4 again for Madden 19 I also got back into Horizon. I got the SpiderMan Pro and bought a new copy of Horizon complete for $16. Today I finally finished it. Last year I’d have rated the game maybe a 7 out of 10 and I think I’ll keep that rating, Frozen Wild pending.

Never was a big fan of the combat. Even in the hardest setting it’s pretty easy. You’re rarely ever forced to apply tactics or deeper thinking to tackling a situation. I won’t deny though, the visuals make the combat appealing in their own way. Equipping the air gun and dismantling robots as they attack you might not require any skill but it looks great. And I do enjoy overriding big machines and watching them just annihilate everything. It really seems like your personal machines are way more powerful than their AI counterparts.

The best part of the game are the visuals and the story. The end section of the game though was a chore though, and completely disappointing. You’re watching Hades awaken these underground ancient machines and it turns out they’re just more Deathbringers. Then you have a horde mode type fight where you have to stave off waves of machines, but you’re given such a powerful weapon and unlimited ammo that it’s  a cake walk. You have a human fight that is just a cliche box room where you lead the enemy to explosive barrels. Followed by another Deathbringer fight. I wonder if they just ran out of time for a proper end boss? The story was so good in this part, it’s a shame the gameplay couldn’t keep up.

I doubt i will do NG+, but I gotta day, I started Frozen Wild and as I am making the leisurely climb up to wherever im going, I get attacked by some level 35 Daemon fire type machine and it killed me in two hits before I even knew what was going on. So theres hope for the expansion.

I still need to get around to actually starting it.

Have it for a while now, since like last christmas or something, and my mother did start it but said she wasn’t really taken by it, while she absolutely loves Elder Scrolls and Fallout. So that’s not an encouraging sign.

The expansion has some cool enemies but spoiler alert:its really the titan horus that was leading to become the final enemy but that will undoubtedly be for the ps5 sequel. When it comes to bosses I guess some machines can be seen as mini bosses but it did seem some things were pushed for the sequel. The game was epic and still have to play half of frozen wilds.

I really liked the game, and loved the frozen wilds, the map it’s stunnings and I love the snowy setting. There’s some harder enemies to fight in the frozen wilds aswell. Really hope there’s going to be a sequel but it’s hard to tell where they will go from here as the main part of the story was finding out how the machines came to be and why they were hostile. But that’s all covered now. They’ve got to try dona story that’s focused on something happening in thier present time while keeping interesting and original.

I'm curious as to how you got 50 hours out of this game without completing it. I think I exhausted two-thirds of the content in the game, and completed the main story, in about 30 hours.

I like the game a lot. At the time I think I would have given it a 9 out of 10. Now, in hindsight, I think it's probably an eight. I'd say a very good game, that falls noticeably short of great.

If you try to finish everything the game takes a long time, and it doe shave this Ubisfot feel to it of being overwhelmed with content which is rather annoying.

I'd give it an 8.5, great game great concepts, lacks some organisation and polish.

I couldn't finish it, either. It didn't hook me. A week after I bought it, the Switch released. After a hundred plus hours in that game, I kinda forgot what I was trying to do in Horizon. I'll have to start it from scratch one day. It was a good game. Just bad timing.

7/10 is a good score.

Yeah it's like the 7/10 scores edge give games. You know it's good.

I'd give this a 9.5/10 myself. Absolute adored it from start to finish. Can't wait to play frozen wilds.

Horizon is in my top 50 greatest games of all time. Any publication that gives it less than an 8 is being pretentious with their reviews.
