It's really too bad. I loved the PSP and it continues to be my favorite handheld but it had a troubled lifetime and the Vita suffered those problems ten times over. The Vita never had a GTA for the west or a Monster Hunter for Japan so this was to be expected.

Um, in JP Vita have Monster Hunter Frontier Z

Wasn't that an MMO kind-of-thing?. That isn't exactly a standard entry into the series and those are the ones that tend to do better. Anyway, what I meant wasn't so much a Monster Hunter game but a game with that type of impact for Japan. That just never happened for the Vita.

i don't think Nintendo's handheld's are also gonna survive against Mobiles

3DS is also bad saleswise compared to the HUGE DS sales

Every gamingg system is bad saleswise when compare them to ps2 and DS sales

no it isn't,PS4 is on-par or very close to PS2 levels

Maybe, but you can say the same thing for certain consoles if you directly compare them with PS2 (PS3 for example).

PS2 vs PS3 isn't the same as there was a big price difference which is why the PS3 sold so badly compared to PS2.

You can see that as PS4 is back to same PS2 levels after the PS4 launched at a better price level

The DS can very much be considered an anomaly in the handheld market.

i agree to that

Anyway if you think Nintendo handhelds are going anywhere, anytime soon the Switch clearly shows otherwise. Compared to the entire 8th gen console market it's only trending behind 1 out of 5 systems.

i wouldn't consider switch as a handheld

if it was released as only a handheld,it wouldn't be doing half as good as its doing now

My previous comment literally proved the opposite. The market crashed with a 60% fall. Nintendo resisted better, sure, but still crashed with a 50% fall. That's not "fine".

If a market is shrinking, the worst thing the leader of this market can do is saying "We're the leader, we're strong, we'll be fine" like you're saying. That's how companies, even strong ones or giants, go bankrupt.

If the handheld market keep shrinking, Nintendo will limit the damage for a while, sure, but they will just be the leader of a niche market with only the most hardcore fans, a shadow of the past.

Why do you think they started to release mobile games? For fun? No. The market is shifting from handheld to mobile, so they have to follow it. And they will keep doing more and more mobile games in the future.

It's also why Sony is working on game streaming, Microsoft on services, and why both Nintendo and Sony went from 2 consoles to only one. Handheld are the first to go, but home consoles are also shrinking, so all the actors are preparing for a shift in their model, at least in part.

Good, let's compare Fire Emblem Heroes to Echoes Shadow of Valentia, Super Mario Run to Super Mario 3D Land, Pokemon Go to Ultra Sun/Moon and yeah, totally same quality.

Who is talking about quality? I'm talking market, audience, money. I don't care about quality, that's subjective.

Fire Emblem Heroes reached $400M of revenues worldwide, and Pokémon Go reached 1.8 billion... And obviously it will just keep growing. 1.8 billion dollars, let that sink in...

The market is on mobile. Nintendo understand that well and is making a lot of money this way, so they will obviously keep growing on mobile.

Well, good riddance PSVita.

Let's see if Switch will entice Sony to make a companion hybrid for PS5.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9008994

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

So Vita don't really need a MH game but a game with big impact? Well, i only think of Minecraft. Pokemon and Animal Crossing are very big in JP but not Sony

So you mean soon there will be games like FEH, SMR and PKM Go with touchscreen only in the future for portable only? And sink what? We all know Nin use the profits of mobile games to fund more proper full game, look at Fire Emblem Three Houses, definitely a step up in term of budgets and graphics for Fire Emblem games. If "sink in" mean more Nin games will sink in to become high quality games then i agree.
