This... state of decay had a huge downgrade, and it wasnt really in the news steams from gameing sites.

Oh its buggy? well free pass, State of decay always had bugs its fine.

Does seem like theres double standards for MS vs Sony.

What are you on about JRPGfan.. of course the bugs were noticed in SoD2.. have you not seen its reviews for it?

Also what huge downgrades are you referring to with that game?

The early trailers (with gameplay) they showed for the game, cant remember it was at E3 or not,
featured vastly better graphic than what it shipped with.

Thats kinda the topic of the thread.  Go back and find some of the early trailers for it, you ll see it.

Its just ironic that Sony is the one that repeatly gets called out for it, when its not even true (spiderman, god of war).
While when MS does with Sea of Theives + State of Decay, nothing....

Really?  Graphics don't help sell games at all?  Why do people want more powerful hardware if the graphics don't matter?

I personally think all of this nitpicking about graphics is stupid, but even I think graphics matter to some extent.

Well to that I have to say

Graphics matter=/=selling point.

If graphics could sell games then The Order 1886 would've been huge.

this.

The "people are so obsessed with graphics" is more like an attack on different taste because the person prefer a weaker platform and not realistic graphic. Everyone that doesn't think the same is wrong so we need to use inflammatory language.

Its fine to like good graphics, but to obsess over small details like puddles is too much. Its unhealthy. Also they were wrong, so its baseless as well.

I understand your point to some extent. I don't like games that look 16 bit era games like most indies. Its also that graphics can make a world more immersive. I feel they are a means to an end, something to accentuate the feel of the game. They aren't all that matters and they certainly don't sell games, but they matter.

Sure there are people who obsess with details. But we do know that a lot of times this accusation is used even if a person like photo-realism or 4k instead of cartoon 720p... "gameplay is all that matters", "60fps or more" and other throw around.

The obsession with puddles or 710 vs 720p is usually people trolling games on the competitor platform.

And certainly graphics alone doesn't make a game, if the rest isn't up to par it will just be a boring or shitty 4k show.

I know what you're saying. I see games with good graphics like Sony games downplayed for having good graphics! Its hilarious. Its not as if a game with good graphics can't be a good game. I usually see this complaint from 2 fanbases, and its sad.

Well, that is normal from fanbase to detract or defend based on who is making =]

I don't think you guys know what a "selling point" is.  Having a convertible top on your car is a selling point.  No one buys a car for a convertible top alone.  That is just stupid.

The people attacking Sony for downgrades number in the dozens, worldwide. There is no actual problem.

It's an act of pure desperation.

Basically the anti-Sony camp desperately clings into the slightest bit of potential Sony misfire and they make it seem like this colossal 'concern' for Sony and PS4. We saw it with the lack of DLNA early on, then it was the lack of 4K Blu-ray drive on PS4 Pro, and now it's the consistent and annoying cross-play nonsense turned into this massive blown out issue.

All the while, the slightest change of the graphics in any of the Sony's high profile games lead to this ridiculous and downright baseless controversy.

This just shows how miserable and petty some people can be.

I still feel the whole cross-play pushing is just another gimmick to garner attention. Why would you make way for someone to move playing from one platform to another when they are trying to hard stay in the competition as rivals? What happened to the past history where Sony brought the idea and Microsoft turned down? It's sad Bethseda wants to prove their point with their next game. We will see.

Bethesda's full of shit. If they actually care about crossplay I'd like to see them put Fallout 76 on the line. Tell Sony no Fallout 76 on PS4 unless they allow crossplay.

Putting a f2p mobile card game no one cares about on the line just screams empty posturing to get some cheap PR points and nothing more.

Honestly, I've never been upset at the prospect of a graphical downgrade. Why? I'm an artist. I take commissions and write short stories for a living and I know first hand that sometimes you have to make sacrifices to meet deadlines or to work within the constraints of your employer.

If Ubisoft wants to make the graphics on Watch_Dogs as pretty as they were in the reveal trailer but the PS4/Xbone can't render it that well while also programming the rest of the world, sacrifices must be made. They may be able to make the graphics that pretty but don't have the time/resources/understanding to make it work on limited hardware within the time constraints.

Compromise is the key in an artistic medium, and videogames are no different. I mean, look at Superman's Upper Lip (tm) in justice League. If you think we don't have the technology to make good lip animations, you are wrong. However, the reshoots and the limited time meant that they couldn't do it justice. Throw all the money in the world at it, there was no way they could do that without pushing the release date back and we all know how grumpy fans and investors can be if a release date is pushed back.

Hoo boy, do you NOT want to push back a release date.

So if it becomes clear that a game isn't going to be as good as planned by release date, it's a no-win scenario. It's either sacrifice where you can and get it out on time and suffer the wrath of fans whining about graphical downgrades or delay it and face the backlash of fans whining about the game being delayed.

I think it was Shigeru Miyamoto who said "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

A terrible quote, there's tons of games that got delayed and still suck, and tons that never got delayed and are great.
