Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Exclusives Attacked For Being Downgraded

I don't get how people use the "every company does this therefor sony does this too" argument when all those games mentioned look better when you play than any showcased material before. That means while everyone does downgrade it seems sony improves their games. I have all those games except beyond) Detroit and they all look very impressive on my 4k hdr TV, better than those reveals.

To be fair, Nintendo improves their games too, both Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 got upgraded before release and Star Fox Zero on Wii U also had it visuals improved, you can find the comparison videos on youtube.

I think a lot of the reasons Sony gets more flack than others is because the fan base of Sony defends Sony to the point where they don't think Sony does anything wrong, ever. But the fact at the end of the day is that all companies downgrade their games, Nintendo,Microsoft,Sony, third parties(im looking at you Ubisoft). It's common place for this. So its wrong for Sony to only be targeted for this and that isn't really fair. But it is what it is, best to just ignore all the noise and just enjoy the games were given.

I would agree with this all the way.  All of the big companies are guilty of this.

However Sony kind of asks for criticism.  It tries to distinguish itself from Nintendo especially by saying how much better the graphics are in the Sony games.  I personally think the graphical difference between Sony in Nintendo is minor, and at the same time I really don't care about these graphical downgrades compared to an E3 presentation.  But a person who is going to nitpick Sony vs. Nintendo graphics can also nitpick when their is a downgrade compared to E3.

When did Sony say their games have better graphics than other games?

I know the point you're trying to get across, and I somewhat agree, but this not the currect way to show evidence. I can google search this for every multiplat and always get a few people whining about a downgrade.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Because its a factual statement. Sony isn't a saint, they downgraded just as much as every other company. Doesn't mean the games are bad, it just means they're just like everyone else in this regard,no better nor worse.

I've noticed that too. Then you have games like zelda which are heavily downgraded from the initial reveal and it gets no such shit show.

Starting a console war pretty much ?

Also, nah, the first trailer was not in-game engine at all.

The Game Awards footage was the first gameplay reveal they've done and it got signifiantly upgraded upon it's release on Switch.

.

Just stating facts. But didn't they claim it was in game after the reveal?

Well there's nothing wrong with being confident in your own companies ability or games. They're supposed to boast and hype their consoles and games, even what they say isn't true.  That's the nature of marketing, basically they're all glorified car salesmen when you think about it. I don't have a problem with Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo or others boast about themselves/or their games really.

Effective Marketing = Honest Marketing

A sure way to piss off customers is to lie to them, especially if it is your product's main selling point.  In fact the companies can get away with BS easier when it isn't the main selling point of the product.  But when it comes to the main selling point, honesty is hugely important, even when it comes to cars.

"My Prius isn't very powerful."  Not really a huge complaint, because people don't buy a Prius for power.

"My Prius only gets 35mpg when they advertised 45mpg."  That is a huge complaint.  In fact 35mpg would be great for a lot of cars, but if someone expects 45mpg on their Prius, then they will be really pissed if they only get 35mpg.  This is the sort of thing that can ruin a company.

Graphics is supposed to be one of Sony's main selling points.  When they lie on graphics, customers get pissed.  And I agree they are definitely not the only offender.  Lots of companies do this, but graphics is supposed to be hugely important for Sony, so they are going to get criticized more when they downgrade their graphics.

Sony advertises their graphics all the frikkin' time.  Here is one example out of many.
