Forums - Gaming Discussion - THQ Nordic acquires Kingdoms of Amalur IP

"THQ Nordic has bought the Kingdoms of Amalur IP as well as the unreleased Copernicus MMO.
THQ Nordic has been prolific in acquiring cut-loose IPs and trademarks. THQ isn't its given name for a start - the company was once Nordic Games - it bought that after the collapse of THQ, just as it bought so much else: Dead Island, Saints Row, TimeSplitters, Homefront, Metro 2033. The list goes on and on."

Seems like THQ Nordic's shopping spree is still in full swing - I hope they're the one that acquire Obsidian, if it ever comes to that.

I could go for a remake of it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Their buying these IP's, but are they getting studios to develop these IP's along with their own pre existing IP's?.

I am starting to really love THQ Nordic. Would definitely support a port of sorts to show interest in the franchise

Might buy me a THQ game to show some love. They're also one of the few devs to release PS2 games on the PS4.

How can they afford all these and more ? where are they getting there money? though good for them whatever they are doing to there bringing daed franchises like timesplitters back

From July 2018:

"We find that the company has about, through possible debt leverage and share issue mandate, SEK 4.2bn (=460 million USD) in available capital for further acquisitions.

https://www.redeye.se/company/thq-nordic/580353/thq-nordic-value-creator-factory

(THQ Nordic did, yet again, deliver significantly above our expectations. Even though Q2 was a minor quarter regarding new release, the net sales landed at SEK 837m which corresponds to a growth of 879%. The massive uptake is of course primarily driven by the Koch Media acquisition, but the “old” THQ Nordic showed a significant organic development with net sales of SEK 145.5m, growth of 70%. We believe MX VS. ATV All Out that was released late in Q1 was the primary sales generator within THQ Nordic Vienna in combination with Battle Chasers on Switch and the Wreckfest releases late in the quarter. Deep Silver had a net sales of SEK 338m, during Q2 the previous year Deep Silver sold games for roughly SEK 178m (growth of 90%!). 80% of the total net sales for the Games segment was from the Backlog, meaning releases from previous years and quarters. The high Backlog sales share makes us believe that the main contributor within Deep Silver was a continued success of the publishing title Kingdom Come Deliverance and its DLC “Treasures of The Past.

The company has 51 ongoing development projects of which 17 has been announced

The usual path for acquired IPs into the THQ Nordic Family are as follows: Porting to new platforms -> Expansion/DLC’s ->Remaster -> Sequel(s)

Amazing news. Someone like THQ I can respect with an IP like KoA. They are far better off with the IP than the likes of EA/Acti/Ubisoft.

THQ are really making the right moves to getting my money/attention.

They've aquired some, have some of their own and I guess they outsource the rest.

I really hope they actually revive it instead of just sitting on it like so many other IP's they own.

At this point they have quite a bit of IPs, yet I don't think they have enough resources to work on all of them. Desperados III are announced for 2019 and Darksiders III is set to release in November, those are old IPs I'm looking forward to.

No idea about the money...it is a bit strange they are constantly acquiring studios and IPs left and right - but I guess being AA/A publisher they're very careful about where and how their money is spent, so it seems they have quite a bit leftover.

If they revive IPs that were collecting dust then I'm all for it.

Crap, EA still owns the publishing right for the game. That means no port or remaster without EA's permission
