The Wikipedia games lists tend to be quite inaccurate, best to use the actual companies stores if possible. Here from Nintendo

Nintendo DS - 1830
Nintendo Wii - 1755
Nintendo 3DS - 1256
Nintendo Switch - 1117
Nintendo WiiU - 1041

So yeah it's already surpassed WiiU and should surpass 3DS in just a couple of months.

I think a lot of this comes down to the Switch being easily their most friendly and appealing console for Indie Developers.

I dont thats most accurate also because I think thats only for US or Europe market, while you have plenty of games that are just for Japan or that were not released in Japan.

Well even if that is the case it makes Wikipedia figures even worse.

Wii, WiiU and 3DS are all lower on Wikipedia (Global) than Nintendo has them for just NA.

Well, the DS still has more than 1800 games, but I guess the digital store will manage to reach that number before the end of the console's lifespam.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah, Wikipedia as source could be kinda incomplete especially for something older like Wii.

On the other hand, back in the Wii-days download-games were new and only few existed. I'm pretty sure Switch already has massively more download-only games than Wii ever had. That games can inflate the number and also reach the number of physical releases.

Well I don't knownif that means more shovelware on Switch than the Wii, I hope nor

Depends on your definition of shovelware. Being able to publish downloadable games severely lowers the barriers of entry and makes it possible for smaller teams with lesser money to release content. That doesn't mean though, that the team doesn't put all effort and heart into their work. For instance the game Unepic was made by a single person with no budget. But however you like or dislike the game, it is clear that isn't simply made to make an easy buck, the creator put all effort into creating a game he thinks is good.

I just pointing that those are not complete list even on Nintendo site, they have different numbers for different regions.

The library is big and varied already, and this is in less than two years. Impressive.

Well yeah because we are now in the age of downloadable games and indie games on consoles. It used to be that you had to make a full priced game that sells in stores and had to be an actual legit game development studio not just an indie developer to get a game on a system. Like on N64 there were plenty of weeks in which zero or 1 game came out. Nowadays there will always be at least multiple downloadable games coming out every week.

Wrong thread.

It is hard to get the exact number on older systems but it is absolutely true we see more games released upon each generation especially now that digital distribution is a main stream and we have developers all over the world that can drop titles with some effort.

Always baffles me when some people on forum's complain that their Switch is gathering dust. Surely its on the individual if they can't find something to play from a choice of over 1300 games.

Some game collectors have pretty accurate lists of at least all physical releases for these consoles on google docs. It gets much more complicated with digital-only releases, unfortunately.
