I dont talk about mobile phones, I talk about consoles/handhelds, fact is that Switch dont have handheld price point but home console price point. The switch price point will not make it a hard sell whatsoever, but you cant still expect really strong sales in Japan when Switch has price point of home console not handheld. Power and graphics dont change much, PSP and Vita were stronger and had better graphics than DS and 3DS, and yet DS sold almost twice better than PSP and 3DS become 3rd best selling gaming hardware in Japan ever. So no, its not strange thats not selling more because has price point of $300 that far away from price point of handheld (>$200), and when actualy Switch gets price point of around $200 in Japan, than will Switch relly start selling like crazy in Japan.
Reason why Nintendo went with hybrid nature of Switch dont have anything with power but with point that Nintendo couldn't support effectively two different platforms in same time any more.

What if this is the new standard price of handhelds. Nintendo could have released a 250 switch but it would have been weak AF. IMO 300 is the new price they'll target for their mobile concerts going forward

But its not about standard, its about clear facts, Switch has price point of home consoles, and on market on which people mostly have interest in handhelds, thats too much for plenty of people for a handheld console, especially for people that are buying multiple consoles per household. $300 for handheld is still far away from mass market price point for handheld devaice (again its good price for hybrid but not for handheld).
Buy time Nintendo will offcourse lower price (price cuts, revisions, probably Switch Mini/Pocket..), and like wrote, only than when Switch has price point of handheld ($200>) in Japan sales will really explode and people will start buying multiply units per household.

Well yeah because the Switch is a new breed of handheld, its a handheld that is powerful enough to deliver console games. First time that has been done. It's more powerful than any system other than Xbox One and PS4, heck its more powerful that their home console that it replaced! Sure PSP and PSV had great graphics for portables when they released, but Switch totally changes the game. It's a console that you can take on the go. So of course it's gonna cost more than the old breed of portables where you went to play "small" games.
No other handheld in history could have sold at a console-level price of $300 because no other portable was in fact a console like the Switch is. 3DS' drastic price drop very quickly from $250 to like $170 is a perfect example of that. Switch is selling at the price point because it plays console games, but its just a handheld with an hdmi adaptor so when it hits that $200 price tag which is like the entry point for handhelds I agree it will really take off, at least relatively because obviously the sales have already taken off since launch.
Pokemon and lower price point and Japan will absolutely explode. I could see Nintendo maybe releasing a portable only version that still allows you to plug into a tv, but just you have to buy a gamepad because the controllers wouldn't come out of the portable only Switch and it'll still live up to the name Switch cuz you can still switch between tv and portable. I could see holiday 2019 leading up to the Pokemon release them coming out with a $200 portable only Switch to pick up gamers who just want a smaller portable device, which is probably millions of people in Japan. Though I'm not totally sure about this because I'm not sure if Nintendo would actually be willing to make a Switch without the joy-cons.

They are already selling a dockless, chargerless version on thier online store in Japan for 250

Value of that package is very bad, for only $50 more you get much greater value, I mean only separate charger cost >$50.
